Kevin's Story

Hi all, Updated November 2011 Upon graduation in 1977 I attended college at Chemeketa and Western Oregon then returned to Mill City to help run the family newspaper. I met and married Sheri Holman of Salem, Oregon while attending college. We started our family in Mill City and lived there until 1992. We had four boys when we left for Utah. In 1988 Sheri and I joined the LDS Church (yes Mormons)That same year I started my own government and public affairs business and hired Marion White as an assistant (you may remember her as the girls PE teacher for our older siblings). At one point I had an office in both Oregon and Utah with 5 employees. I closed my Oregon office in 1995 and in 1998 entered into commercial real estate here in Utah. Shortly after we moved to Alpine, Utah in 92 we had our fifth boy. A couple years later we adopted twin girls from Romania. After the adoption we had two more children, both girls - thats 9 if you are counting. My oldest is 29 my youngest 9. I have the coolest family in the world (okay we all think that)My oldest son played college basketball at Sounthern Virginia University and is now a regional manager for Vivent- He has fathered my three grandchildren with a 4th on the way. He has a great wife. She reminds me of Sheri when we were younger. My second oldest son did his undergraduate work in theater direction at BYU and got a masters degree from Western Oregon. He teaches high school here in Utah and is considering returning to graduate school to get a terminal degree in directing Shakespear - I know, he gets it from his mother. Our third son was recruited to play Diviision 1 football (all you Ducks might be pleased to know Oregon was on his short list). He chose to follow his two older brothers and serve an LDS mission before college. His plan was to return and play at BYU. While on his mission he was diagnosed with an aggresive form of Leukemia. He passed away in September of 2007. You can read more about his story by googleing The Jason Long Foundation. Our next oldest is attending BYU on partial scholarship. He just returned from his 2 year LDS mission to The Phillipines. He was his high school's Student Body President, captain of the basketball team and Boy Of The Year. Our fifth son is 18 and is very inteligent. At 16 He scored a 34 on his ACT college entrance exam; 36 is perfect. He was the captain of his high school basketball team and played footba...Expand for more
ll as well. He entered college at the age of 16 on a full ride schollarship at BYU. He is a double major in the Kennedy School of International Relations and The Marriott School of Management. He leaves in January 2012 for a 2 year mission in Uruguay. Now for our second family - THE GIRLS. Our twins are 18 and beautiful. One is a typical girl - loves hair, clothes and taking care of people. Her twin is very athletic and started on the high school varsity basketball team as a freshman. Our 15 year old daughter is cute and charming - She has a killer voice and loves to perform. Our baby is 11. She relishes in the role of daddy's little girl. She is very athletic and sassy - in a cute sort of way. Sheri is a stay at home mom and loves every minute of it. She loves to travel (been to Europe and Brazil but mostly stateside the last couple years) research and study theology. I currently dabble in commercial real estate development. I have done a little fee based development but for the most part make my living selling and leasing commercial real estate-Want a good investment property drop me a line - I can be reached through Coldwell Banker Commercial Real Estate in Salt Lake City, Utah. While in Oregon I was very politically active and lobbied for the local timber industry and other clients. I considered a run for the Oregon House in 1990 I dropped out of the political circles shortly after moving to Utah - started heading toward development at that point. My neatest accomplishments - other than my family - Having lunch with Vice Prsident Dan Quail, being on the Today Show with Jane Pauley and being involved in the development of the first Hyatt Hotel in Utah. My current passion would probably have to be BYU football. I have season tickets, travel with the team when I can and through our foundation, fund a memorial scholarship in Jason's name. I love life - I have been tremendously blessed. I hope the past 30 plus years have been as kind to you as they have been to me. I miss Mill City and the small timber town life. My mom passed away in 2009. My brother Mike (Class of 70) preceded her in death. My sister Linda (class of 73)is married and living in the East Bay area of San Francisco. She is an executive director of Girls Incorporated of the Bay Area. My little brother Jerry (class of 82) Is an administrator for the State of Oregon. Drop me a line and lets talk old times or current stuff.
