Kevin's Story

Hi guys! Many of you I attended Hubbard St. Elementary and Olive Vista Jr. High with. In 1970 I attended my first year of high school at Sylmar High after which my life took a major turn. For family reasons my parents moved to Florida where I spend the summer of 1970 whereupon my family moved to Ellington, Mo, a small town in SE Missouri with a population of 800. I attended Ellington High in 1971. More family crisis sent us packing to Marietta, Ga (just north of Atlanta) the summer of '71 where I graduated from Sprayberry High School in '72. Attending three high schools, each in a different state and each with different cultural attitudes was certainly an opportunity for personal growth. Consider a kid from suburbia LA where people talk normal being moved to a small country town where everyone has an accent and every family seems to be related to one another and has been forever. The nearest movie theater was 60 mi away and the biggest entertainment in town was the pool hall where I became proficient at snooker. After high school I spent the next four years in Georgia working towards my dream of becoming a professional moto-cross racer. I gave it all I had and experienced marginal success but, alas, was never able to break into the factory sponsor...Expand for more
ed ranks. After much soul searching I made the decision to go back to school. Since we were living in Georgia just a short distance from Georgia Tech, and since (who knew) I had a aptitude for mathematics I applied there and graduated in 1980 (first in my class, apparently I was a ringer) with a degree in mechanical engineering. I went on to get a graduate degree and moved back to Ca. Through the years I have lived in San Francisco, Santa Cruz, Santa Barbara and now Ventura where I think I am going to stay. I have been here for 17 years working for Haas Automation as an engineering manager. I met the love of my life in Ventura and we were married in 2000. Sylvana works tirelessly as an ER physician in the Ventura County Medical Center where she has seemingly grown roots. We live a simple life; I am an avid road and mountain bike rider and a fledgling woodworker. I still have some regrets over not being able to graduate with the kids I grew up with and today more of my thoughts are given over to the question of how everyone turned out and what was the arc of their lives. This web site has helped answer some of the questions and I am happy and astonished to learn that we did OK and were successful, vital and happy. Thanks for reading this far. Kevin
