Kevin's Story

Life If you want to read about work, it's strangely in the "workplace" section, so I'll use this area to bore you with other things. Since there are no wife, kids, or pets (how sad is that?!?!), we'll talk about other things. In addition to work, I'm heavily involved at Bel Air Presbyterian Church, singing with the Chancel Choir, occasionally going cool places like Carnegie Hall and Europe, and doing some solo singing as well. I also sing professionally with the Los Angeles Master Chorale under the direction of Grant Gershon (a brilliant conductor), who just so happens to have gone to Chapman College with Longmont High's own choir director, Ray Harrision. In fact, it came up in my first audition, although I don't know if that had anything to do with being invited into the group. We perform at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in downtown LA, and occasionally at the Hollywood Bowl. It's not only a great creative outlet, but I've never sung with such an amazingly talented group of singers--truly one of the best choral ensembles in the world. (Why he allows me to stay in the group is beyond me.) So of the acting, writing, and singing (see "workplace"), I only do the singing anymore, which still doesn't pay the bills, but sure does give me some nice vacation money. Other than that, I enjoy traveling, having been to New York, Santa Fe, San Francisco, Maui, France, Switzerland, Monaco, Italy, and various other destinations in the past couple of years. This fall, it's off to Italy for 2 weeks in Venice, Florence, Tuscany/Umbria, and Rome. Next year, choir will return to Carnegie Hall, and who knows what other destinations will be in store. Since there are no aforementioned wife, children, pets, I'm considering posting a picture of my car--is that wrong?? I kinda like it. For the reco...Expand for more
rd, it's a 2007 Shelby GT500--if you don't know what that is, ask someone--they'll tell ya. As far as up-to-the-moment information, I'm currently house hunting (or condo hunting rather, given the ridiculous prices around here), and hope to be in a place by the end of summer. Other than that, looking forward to seeing y'all in August. Workplace Moved to LA in 1998 to pursue the acting/writing/singing thing, which for anyone who cares, does NOT pay the bills! So to support those necessary evils of food, shelter, etc., I started working temp jobs, one of which was for an advertising agency. I was supposed to be filling in the gap between one person who had left, and another starting. Let's just say at the end of 3 days I thought I was done, and the phone rang. "Can you come back? The person who started stayed half a day and quit." Long story short, my 3 day temp gig turned into nearly 8 years with my last company, progressing up through the Media Department from Assistant to the Media Director to Asst. Media Planner, to Planner, to Supervisor, to Associate Media Director, to Vice President. In February of 2007, I decided to make a massive change, accepting a job as Vice President of Media/Media Director for an ad agency in Pasadena which specializes in working with non-profit clients such as St. Jude Children's Hospital, Habitat for Humanity, World Vision, Operation Smile, Rescue Missions, and Food Banks. It was one of the best decisions I've ever made--truly feeling like my job makes at least some small difference in the world. I now oversee 25 media planners, broadcast buyers, and print buyers, with heavy client contact, and new business presentations. Unlike the things I came to LA to do, this job DOES pay the bills, and my 3 day temp gig has worked out pretty well...
