Kevin's Story

Life I bounced around for a few years, moved to San Francisco went to college (City College of SF, San Francisco State), taught school (shop teacher)in the San Francisco area, moved to Las Vegas and taught shop as well. Moved back to Faribault MN. Worked at the Wilson Center psychiatric hospital for 20 years or so, ended up owning it. Sold it in about 2001. Built a home and tried to retire in Arizona, got bored in about 3 weeks. I Am now in the import/export motorcycle business. My web site is w w w dot enfieldmotorcycles dot com I live mostly in the Phoenix area but my business is in Faribault MN so I commute on an almost weekly basis. Good for frequent flyer miles, not great for family life. Fortunately I have an understanding and supportive wife. I had two children with my first wife in 1990 and 1995, my oldest (Taylor) lives in Monterey CA. and is in college and the youngest (Mary-Gray) is attending college at Willamette University in Salem OR.. In 2004 my second wife and I adopted a then 10 year old girl from Russia. So far no one at her school has asked her if I am her grandfather, so that has been encouraging. She is now 14 and has been a wonderful addition to our lives. School HS was a mixed bag for me. I had no real interest in academics and was not very "socially active". I spent most of my time hanging out with my friends, usually up to no good. Having said that, I did meet a lot of great people at JM. In retrospect, I think that there were a lot of very nice people at JM and my overall memories of them are positive. College Finished one year at Rochester JC over the course of 3 ...Expand for more
years. Moved to San Francisco and finished an AA at City College of San Francisco, BA from San Francisco State, grad work at SF State and UNLV in Las Vegas, MBA from St. Thomas in St. Paul. College was tough for me as I had to support myself, pay my tuition, books etc. (like many others), but it was one of the best investments I've ever made. I had absolutely no interest in academics while at JM (except perhaps for Ted Lutters Auto Shop Classes), thankfully once I got to college my interests really started to grow and I was able to do well. I guess I had more interest in hanging out with my buddies than studying in HS, but I don't think that is an uncommon story. Workplace I have been everything from a Class A professional waiter in San Francisco, to an ice machine attendant in Yellowstone park, to an auto shop teacher, to a hospital administrator, to a custodian and on and on and on. I have been self employed for 20 plus years and couldn't imagine it any other way. (Actually I doubt anyone would have me). I love the rush of the chase in the business world. I tried to retire, but that didn't lasted. I know that I will work until I die, which at least means that I am not counting the days to retirement. The old adage that" if you do what you love, you will never work a day in your life" has proven to be very true for me. Mike Gustine (who I grew up with in the same neighborhood) has been in contact with me recently and it has been nice to re-new that relationship. I am really looking forward to our next reunion hoping to see some old friends and would be interested is hearing from any of you.
