Kim's Story
As I was growing up, my family moved around several times. I spent kindergarten until mid-5th grade in Emporia, VA, then we moved to Whiteville, NC, in 1975. We lived in Whiteville for two years, then moved again. I lived in Monroeville, AL, from the middle of my 7th grade year (1977) until the end of my 9th grade year and attended Monroeville Jr. High (where my mother, Daphne Clonts, taught math) during 8th and 9th grades. We then moved to Lugoff, SC, in 1980, where I graduated from Lugoff-Elgin High School and my parents still live there today.
After graduating from Clemson University in 1987, I began dating Mark Powell (L-E Class of '81) and we married in May 1988. At that time, he had just started his career in the US Army and I am still his Army wife today.
We are now living in Peachtree City, GA. We moved here in July 2009 after moving a total of 14 times (so far) and living in Oklahoma, Texas, Georgi...Expand for more
a, Germany, Washington DC, Kansas, Arizona, Kentucky, and England over the past 20 years. Mark, a Colonel now, works at Fort Gillem in Atlanta.
We have two daughters, Emily and Lydia, and they are 14 and 11 years old, respectively. Until they arrived, I had a job outside the home, but now I feel very blessed to be able to stay at home with my children.
All in all, we have had a terrific time moving around, meeting some of the nicest people in the world. We always look forward to getting back to Lugoff and Elgin to see our families and friends, though.
Junior high, high school and college memories remain some of my favorites. I enjoy telling my girls about how their daddy and I met in Mom's Algebra II class, about how much fun it was to be in the Marching Pride (they've even met Mr. Price), about how great it was to attend Clemson University, and about how lucky I was to have met so many terrific people.
