Kim (Eckelbarger)'s Story
Life....
....doesn't always turn out the way you expect. What's been your biggest surprise? For me, I really don't have any specific surprise. As you can see from my update below, my whole life has been filled with a lot of surprises!
SURPRISE! Update: 11/28/2009-My husband passed away 10/17/2009; killed by asbestos fibers! I miss him so much!!!!!
Update 7/8/2008-My Family
My husband, Ray just turned 52 in June. I have 2 daughters from previous marriage. My oldest was 32 in Jan. & my youngest will be 30 in Sept. Melynda, my oldest daughter, has 2 boys, Zakary age 15 (June) and Tristen age 7 (Jan) along with 1 girl, Isabelle Ashleigh, age 4 (May) Amber is my youngest & she also has 2 boys, Nicholas age 10 (Jan) and Samual, age 4 (Dec). Ray's children are oldest daughter, Niki, age 28 (Oct) & she has a boy, Brady age 4 (July); Matthew, Ray's youngest, age 22 (June). We also have 2 step-grandaughters, Pharyn, age 13 (Nov) & Hanna age 8 (June); Braden, our step-grandson was 4 in June. We have a 2 cats, Rusty Boy age 2 & DaniKa age 1.
I raised my daughters by myself in Colorado and boy, was that a challenge! I moved back to Indiana in 2000 after both my daughters decided to move back in 1997 & 1999. My phone bills were outrageous, ha!
I ran into Ray shortly after I moved back to Indiana & we married in 2003 after briefly dating him back in 1975. Can you believe that? 5 months ago, Ray was diagnosed with malignant pleural mesothelioma. After 6 rounds of chemo & 3 PET/CT scans, the asbestos cancer has stabilized. We prayed for healing & have put our faith in the GOOD LORD ABOVE. We also pray for our family, friends & neighbors for all to be blessed by HIM!
My Job
I have been...Expand for more
an insurance agent since Feb. '03 and truly enjoy my job and the work. All of my customers are just fantastic! In 2006, I became a self-employed insurance agent and now am working from my home office. This allows me more time with my husband to love and care for him!
School
My best experience was being blessed with 2 daughters. One of my favorites was just going to school. My favorite teacher was Ms. Susnick who taught alternate English classes & Mrs. Oatess who taught poetry. I really had no idea where I was going or what I would do when I finished school. I believe this is why I was blessed with 2 children by the time I was 21.
College
I rec'd a 2 yr. degree- Assoc. in Bus. Mgmnt and Computer Science. At that time, it was a struggle working full time & raising 2 teenage daughters by myself. I attended 3 nites a week & some Saturdays, as well. It was a very challenging time in my life. I organized a few study groups, especially in Algebra & finished with a GPA of 3.57. I was awarded one scholarship & was nominated in Who's Who in Young American Business People. I carried a GPA of 4.0 up until my youngest daughter decided to rebel which resulted in an extra 6 months to finish my degree. Overall, it was a great experience & my daughters, as well as myself, finally learned the importance of (higher) education.
Workplace
I've worked several jobs over the years from fast food management, factory, secretary, data manager, customer service, credit manager, office manager. I am currently a licensed insurance agent in property and casualty and believe I have finally found my calling. I love the work & the people! Currently, I work from my home office due to my husband's illness.
