Kim's Story
Life
After graduating from Milby in 1975 I moved to Galveston Island for 6 years during which time I attended Galveston College. In 1981 I moved to Gulf Breeze, Fla., a peninsula between Pensacola and Pensacola Beach. This beautiful place is home now. I have two children, a son, 21, and daughter, 8. We also have 7 cats, 3 dogs, a saltwater aquarium, fresh water aquarium, and a pond filled with Koi. I'm a newspaper reporter (have been in the business 17 years) for the daily paper. Currently, I'm a senior business reporter for the Money section of the paper. Also, I cover military news and issues, and news on our local U.S. congressman. When not working, I love to spend time at the beach with my ocean kayak. The water here is crystal clear and varies from a deep tourqoise color to emerald green. So we can see a lot of marine life while kayaking. I also ...Expand for more
create jewelry that I sell at local shops and at art shows.
Workplace
I'm a newspaper reporter (have been in the business 17 years) for the daily paper. I recently moved to the Life style section of the paper after working as a senior business reporter for the Money section for nearly five years. I've also covered the military beat as we have several military bases in the area - Pensacola Naval Air Station, which is home to the precision flight team Blue Angels; Headquarters for Air Force Special Operations at Hurlburt Field and Eglin Air Force Base. Most recently I've been covering the Hurricane Ivan recovery efforts in our community. Ivan slammed into Pensacola on Sept. 16, 2004 displacing tens of thousands of residents, flooding thousands of homes and damaging roughly 50,000 roofs. Experts predict it will take five years to fully recover.
