Kim's Story

I moved from Newberg to Southern California in 1980. I married the love of my live in 1983 and we are still very happy together. Between the two of us, we have 5 children and 12 grandchildren, plus about 300 English Budgies (parakeets) and an African Grey Parrot. I worked the first few years that I lived in California, then decided to become a stay at home mom and do in-home daycare so I could spend more time with the kids. I did daycare until our youngest moved out and then re-joined the working class. My first job when I started working again was at a center for abused/abandoned/neglected children. It was a very emotional job, but I loved every ...Expand for more
minute of it. In 1997 I was in an auto accident that left my back messed up to the point that I could no longer work with the children because of the lifting, etc. I then transferred to a clerical position and from there, I promoted to my current position, which is Human Services Specialist for Medi-Cal and Food Stamps. I enjoy this job almost as much as I did working with the children because I know I am helping those that need it. I have been a County employee for almost 13 years now and hope to retire at 20 years. I figure then I'll still be young enough to travel and see the world. I would love to touch base with some of my former classmates.
