Kimber Drummond:

CLASS OF 1977
Joliet, IL

Kimber's Story

Most of you remember me in high school as "Kim" not Kimber. I was pretty quiet in high school and was not involved in school activities. I came there as a Sophmore since we had moved to Illinois during the summer before. Since most of you grew up together and had formed lifelong friendships before that, it was really difficult to make friends. I found my little niche in school with the handicapped kids. I was an aide to the kids for 3 years, and helped them get back and forth to class and sometimes helped them with homework. Back then we were known as "pushers", because we literally helped "push" the kids back and forth to class in their wheelchairs. I wouldn't carry that title today for anything! The only type of mischief we used to do during school was during lunch time. As an aide, we got to take the kids to the cafeteria and were able to use the elevator. If I remember correctly, it was Orlando who instigated it. We would take orlando and Jeff, the 2 kids with electric wheelchairs and put them on the elevator first, then we would see how many other kids we could get on the elevator at one time. It was pretty small, so it was quite a challenge. We managed to get quite a few on there and still get the elevator closed. There was a certain someone who was rather well endowed at the time, and we always had trouble getting the doors to close because of her "endowment". Finally one time Orlando said "get your "peaches" in here. well, needless to say, the name stuck and for the remainder of our school days, she went by Peaches. (U NO WHO YOU ARE! :) ) Anyway, ...Expand for more
that was the excitement of my days at Central. I still don't know how the elevator kept from breaking. My life since then has been a little more of a roller coaster. I got married right out of high school and got divorced a few years later. Since then I have been re-married and re-divorced. I am still divorced and not looking to get married anytime soon. I would like to date again, but we'll see how that goes. As for the rest of my life, I worked for about 15 years in retail. When I realized that wasn't getting me anywhere, I decided to go back to school. I did things the hard way, but in many ways it has paid off in the long run. I now have my bachelor's degree and I am a Nurse. I have been doing it for almost 10 years and I really love it. I work on a general Med-Surg floor and the job can be very demanding, but in many ways it is also very rewarding. I also have a family. I have 2 girls ages 27 and 12. (wouldn't recommend that age split to anyone!) I also have 2 grands! My grandson is 9 and my granddaughter is 5. I love them all dearly and wouldn't trade any one of them. These days my personal life is usually wrapped around my family. Going to sports events and other school activities. During my own time I like to read and sew. I also love gardening in my yard. My favorite T.V. shows are Dancing with the Stars and C.S.I.. I also enjoyed Brothers and Sisters. and The Reba Show was one of my favorites. I enjoy Country Music and love dancing to it. That about wraps up my life for now. I would love to hear from some of you too.
