Kimberly's Story
Looking forward to the next Geezerpalooza!
Our 37th wedding anniversary is coming up October 1, 2019. No children, so no grandchildren. However, we have 9 nieces and nephews - 5 girls & 4 boys. We currently have three four-legged children...all cats, all rescues. The oldest is named Fuzz Butt. He's an indoor/mostly outdoor domestic medium to long-haired cat weighing about 11-12 lbs. We think he may be part Siberian Farm Cat. The other two cats are both black domestic shorthairs...a mother and her son. The momma cat is named Little Lady and her son is named Dude because he is pretty laid back - and not the brightest crayon in the box.
I am retired from employment with the State of Texas. I last worked for the Texas Historical Commission in Austin, TX. I retired December 31, 2014. My husband, Scott Gamble, is an Automotive Technician with Auto Tek in Austin,TX. Scott is super fit at 62. In answer to the next inevitable question, nope - I am not nearly as fit as my amazing husband. LOL!
I belong to the Polycystic Kidney Disease Foundation (PKDF)Austin Chapter. Turns out Scott Hufford's (also Class of '77) parents were also members of the ...Expand for more
same PKDF chapter for many years. SMALL WORLD!!! Complications from PKD keep me from being as fit as I would like, but I do well. Despite incredibly enlarged kidneys, I still have 70% function of my kidneys at age 60. My kidney doctor thinks I may be able to stave off kidney failure entirely if I keep taking good care of myself by exercising, keeping my blood pressure rigorously controlled, and taking a brand new drug called Jynarque. It is the first treatment for PKD. I've been on the Jynarque for 6 months now and so far, so good! I lost some fluid weight and don't feel bloated like before. In fact, I like to do some short hikes with my husband on occasion!
I've been in Al-Anon (for family & friends of alcoholics) for 30 years. This recovery program saved my life, my marriage, and many relationships (including my relationship with God) throughout the years. Life is pretty darn good today! One of my favorite quotes is from John Wesley - "Do all the good you can. By all the means you can. In all the ways you can. In all the places you can. At all the times you can. To all the people you can. As long as ever you can." Blessings to you all!
