Kimberly's Story

Life I've been working for my Dad at Carousel Pools since 1/89. I got married 4/92. I had a baby - Ethan Henry Ellingson 10/00 - my joy and the greatest thing to happen in my life. Becoming a parent changed my life (unfortunately, my husband didn't "become a parent" with me so we were divorced 12/02). Life is full of change. Boy have I changed! All for the better I think (with perhaps the exception of the weight gain - LOL!). I now know that all throughout my formative years I had guardian angels watching over me and protecting me from my bad choices. There is no other way to explain the fact that I did not overdose on something, end up in jail, or worse. I don't think I would change a thing as it is those life experiences that has formed me into the person I am today. I think I pretty much know what I want out of life and am working toward attaining those goals. I wish I wasn't going through life alone, but I figure that God is going to some day bring the right man into me & Ethan's lives. Until then, I am to keep my eyes on Jesus Christ. He will provide for me exactly what I need. I have attended MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) since 2001 and was active on the Steering Committee from 2002-2005 ending 2006 as the group's Coordinator. I enjoyed being able to just attend in 2007 year - with no responsibilities or duties weighing me down. I very much enjoy singing. I was was a part of the rocking Lookout Mountain Community Church choir from 2002 through 2007 before it dis-banned and also sang with the worship band. I've even sang with my friend Sydney Hostetler at a couple of "gigs" in Olde Town Arvada as well as at the famous Little Bear in Evergreen and the Buffalo Rose Saloon in Golden. I am currently attending The Sanctuary Downtown and sing regularly on the worship team there, lead by Justin Bullis, a most incredible musician. I moved to Arvada in December 2003. My father & I run his swimming pool business out of my home (dad owns it, I am his tenant). Although I find it challenging at times, I feel it is an incredible privilege being a mom to my spitfire of a son. He is a very precocious 9 year old that definit...Expand for more
ely keeps me on my toes. Being a single-parent is hard but I have lots of support from family, friends and my church-family. In 2005, Ethan received a formal diagnosis of ADHD - emphasis on the "H". More recently bi-polar disorder was added to the mix. We are blessed to have wonderful teachers and therapists and doctors working with us to accommodate his needs and help him learn to overcome this "condition". I am a member of an internet group of about 25 moms that all had babies from mid-August to mid-October 2000. We've been a group since early 2000 and are from all over the United States as well as Canada & Australia. Several of us have met in person. My latest undertaking is being Ethan's Cub Scout Den Leader. I have a very active group of eight 8 & 9 year old boys in my den. I've almost completed my first year in this role. I do enjoy it - although I find it a BIG stretch for me. It's just that I am a city girl so camping is a great test of my fortitude. I do enjoy Cub Scouts and believe in it wholeheartedly. I just like calm, and quiet activities and my boys just don't fit into that mold. But we do have a great time and I thoroughly enjoy the other leaders in our Pack. I take great pleasure in making beautiful beaded jewelry and other various adornments. If I were to really put some effort into it I could probably actually make some money at it. I am fortunate to be able to spend a 1/2 day each week volunteering in Ethan's classroom. I learn a lot from the kids. Cooking brings me great joy. Especially when I get to prepare a big meal for a group of good friends and serve them. I like to do small catering gigs for my sister or church or whomever. I just like preparing food and seeing people enjoy it. Singing is my greatest passion. It is what fills me up. I don't ever feel closer to God than when I am worshipping Him through music. There is no greater feeling than making awesome music with a group of incredible musicians. . .. just going where the Spirit moves you . . . creating this magical organic experience . . . getting lost in the sound and moment . . . that feeds my soul. That is what fills me up.
