Kimberly Kennedy's Story

Hope everyone is doing well. I've had the complete pleasure of reconnecting with so many people from my childhood thanks to Classmates! I still feel as if I'm 8 years old at times and just 'playing' at being an adult..... Does anyone else feel like this? I'm an avid writer, if you peruse the web my moniker is Atlanta Pearl Girl. I have a book hopefully to be published first of next year. Wish me luck! I've been divorced for about 10 years now... was married to a doctor...we have 2 great kids and I have 2 step-kids who are really close to my age (I know...I know.......) My daugher is 15 and my son is 11. They are GREAT kids. We live in a really cool house (looks like a treehouse actually) in Historic College Park. My kids are at Woodward and we live in a great community very connected to the campus. I love old neighborhoods. I recently resigned from Executive Staff for The Honorable Mayor Shirley Franklin.... had been with her for 4 years and now her term will be ending soon. I recently accepted Vice President of Marketing for a group of companies out of Calhoun & Chattanooga. Great thing is that I will be staying put in ATL and working off laptop. At home with my kids is great! Cheers! School BC Haynie Elementery - We lived right behind the school on Skylark. My friends at the time were Debbie Lord, Salina Foles, Jennifer Crowe, Judy Dorminy and many more which escape me (the 40 year old is kicking in I suppose). A favorite memory during the summers were lying on my back in the grass and watch the clouds go by. Climbing trees (I was a girlie girl tom boy) and having summer crushes at the beach. We were always at the beach during the summer. I remember going to the Halloween festivals at BC Haynie. Mother would give me money and off I'd go! (by myself...would you do that with your child now? 'NO'!). I rode my bike everywhere!!!!! Stroops was a little store at the corner of Philllips/Skylark & Morrow Road...does anyone remember that place? The Dairy Queen on LaKe Harbin (it's still there too). CSU was still a Jr. College. Those were warm memories. Ms. Strickland was my frist grade teacher...we used to see her at the grocery store all the time and I would be mortified... not sure why? I was a cheerleader (Tornadoes). Still have my uniform...Laura wore it for a while when she was a tot. I playe...Expand for more
d the flute in band. WA Fountain Jr. High. What a year!!!!! So many schools merged into one 7th grade drama! It was a huge school for me coming from BC Haynie. It was exciting and gut wrenching all rolled into one. I loved that school. I was in band with the BEST band director in the world! Mr. Wilkes! He was so strict and cold, but when you did something brilliant you shined in his eyes. He was the best. I also played lst chair flute & lst chair piccolo. (bragging rights here you know). So may friends...new ones..old ones. That was the summer I met Gina Buckner...this shy slightly chubby girl..barely spoke a word. The next year though........she lost all this weight at Babb and was the most popular girl! She was just georgous, and genuniely sweet. Back to Fountain...I remember all the clicks...the popular ones..the freaks (the ones who smoked.....), the nerdies, the mass of everyone else. Even at that age, I always enjoyed sitting back and watching everyone. Mr. Chalmers Davis was a cool math teacher..he had a boa constrictor and let him out in class...it was so scary and cool at the same time. And Mr. Roberts...those announcements "STU-dents and TEA-chers of W A FOU-tain'. Does anyone remember 'Pokie Malone'? He was this big black kid who was popular and played football I think. He lived around that area (I can't even remember where WA Fountain is anymore???? I'll have to take a drive one day and find it again). And Barry Payne..... I still have a crush on that guy. I remember how kids could be so cruel to each other at that age. It was so painful to see others hurt just because some other kid (usually a popular one) felt he or she had this 'power' to do so. I always tried to be so mindful...even if I truly didn't like someone. Remember all the sleepovers??? At Kat's house? I remember Salina Foles had an older brother and how weird I thought that was. So funny. Those were great memories. OH! I have to tell you this one...I remember I began my 'period' in 7th grade. It was in band class and I had NO IDEA what was going on. I tied my jacket around my waist.... feeling horrible for the rest of the day. I had resigned myself to the fact that I must be dying of cancer by the time I got home at the end of the school day. I was so relieved when I found it it was normal. :::::laughing::::::::
