Kimberly's Story
Life
I now live in Roseau, MN, on the Canadian border, with my husband Bucky, of 18 years, and our 2 sons, Justin 17 and Joshua 14. We love living here because it's like being at the cabin every day of the year. Lake of the Woods is 20 minutes away and we all LOVE to fish. Roseau is home to Polaris Industries and we all LOVE to ride 4wheelers and snocats. We are able to hunt in our backyards and there is no rush hour traffic. We also love our Hockey, GO ROSEAU RAMS!! We moved here in 1998 and would never live in the cities again. It is fun to visit the cities but nice to be able to leave it behind. We are fortunate enough to live the life that many people wait all year long to take as a vacation. Yeah, we're all a bit "redneck" here, we all wear blaze orange in the fall and snow pants till June but it is so worth it. It's freakin cold up here at times but then I guess we'll live longer, we're half frozen all the time :)
Workplace
I started working as a Nursing Assistant while in highschool, in 1986. I continued to work as one until 1995 when I had an accident at work, ended up...Expand for more
crushing my ankle, and was unable to return to that job. I really loved that job too. Unable to carry out that position any longer, I moved to the Law Enforcement field, where I worked as a 911 Dispatcher and Corrections Officer for a county Sheriffs Department. Talk about a fun and challenging job. Unfortunately, due to the ankle injury, from the years of 1995 thru 2003, I had 10 ankle surgeries/ fusions and they failed to properly heal my ankle or relieve the pain. So.....in 2004 I begged my Ortho Doctor to chop it off and they did, I had my right leg amputated below the knee in 05/04. Sounds terrible huh? Not really, I'm one tough chick! I wanted this, easy way to get rid of the pain. I can run for miles now. I know, I know, where the hell am I going with this in the employment part of this bio thing...back to the subject, since the amputation, I have been unable to work, so I am currently "retired" I guess you could call it, getting to stay at home and be an "at home mom" and I LOVE THIS JOB THE BEST!!! I still get paid by work comp and get to be with my boys all the time!
