Kimberly's Story

Life My Spouse I met my husband at the ball park where our two sons played on the same team. This a second marriage for the both of us and between the two of us we are raising five kids. Ages: 17,17,15,14,13. There is never a dull moment! My husband and I lived parallel lives in the same suburb of Austin for years. Turns out that our dads went to school together and played football at Travis High School. What a small world! He and I were meant to be together from the start, but we just took our time finding that out. My Pets Spazmo - cross between a Welsh Corgi and a terrier. He's a hoot! He gets all wound up and he races around the house. He really earns his name. Belle & Bandit (Cooter) - We got this brother and sister at the Animal Shelter. They very much remind me of Old Dan and Little Ann from Where the Red Fern Grows. B & B are never apart from each other. If one scratches a certain place, so does the other. They are mostly white, but they have reddish/brown ears & eyes and a reddish/brown patch at the top of their tails. They are very loyal to the family, but they really don't like strangers. We have to put them in another room if we have company. Of course, all they do is bark and then run away! Belle climbs trees and does about a 3-4 foot vertical jump over barbed wire fences. (We live in the country.) She also can climb out of their pen by getting in the corner and walking her way up the chain links. Cooter (Bandit)...Expand for more
is a clumsy oaf and is a complete couch potato. He loves licking us, especially our feet. Ugh. My Kids We have five kids between us. Our best time of the day is when we are at the dinner table. We can get into some pretty wild conversations! My husband's kids are 17,15, & 13. My kids are 17 & 14. Their names are: Jennifer (his), Matt(mine), Josh (his), Bryan(mine), and Lauren(his). Jennifer and Matt both drive and have part time jobs. Bryan and Josh love to play baseball. Lauren is really into art and architecture. She won a Gold Key Art Award this past year in 7th grade. My son Bryan had two major chest surgeries last year(8th grade). The dr. had to basically rebuild his rib cage and muscle structure. It was very difficult getting through, but now Bryan is back to his old self. Can you imagine having an extremely active 13 year old boy and he is not able to do ANYTHING for 6 months?! We went through that twice. I wouldn't trade the family that I've got for all the money in the world. I am told on a regular basis by many different people that they wonder how we do it. (Our kids get along very well. Some times it is kind of weird.) The answer is that God is the Head of our family and life. My Job I teach 7th & 8th graders reading. I get the kids who don't read very well. And I also teach the Advanced Reading classes as well. I love my job - have been doing it going on 19 years now. I can't imagine doing anything else!
