Kimberly's Story
Life
Hello everyone! Can't wait to see everyone at the 40-Year Reunion in August!
After graduation, I went to college in Texas where I obtained my BS in Social Work. Then, I moved to Vermont/New Hampshire to get to know my extended family (grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc). While there I served for 4 years as the Baptist Student Union Director at Dartmouth College and also went to work in human services in the non-profit sector. While serving at Dartmouth, I also obtained my MA in Counseling Psychology. In March 1997, I moved to North Carolina to begin work on my doctorate in Clinical Psychology. In Dec. 1999, I put my studies on hold and moved back to NH to deal with health issues.
I am blessed with so many wonderful, loving people in my life. In August 2005, I moved back to Texas to live with a friend from college. She and her family were just wonderful and ministered to me in ways I could never have imagined. Now, that family has moved to Atlanta and I returned to North Carolina in July 2006 to be with my amazing church family here. I continue to live my life to the fullest extent possibl...Expand for more
e and God continues to grant me new days to live! I have much to be thankful for.
I am also mother to a 42-year old daughter with some developmental delays (born Feb. 14, 1982). Maranda moved in with me in October 1998 when she was a 16-year-old foster child. When she turned 21, she officially left the foster care system and transferred to the adult system for individuals with developmental disabilities - making my official title then "Home Care Provider." I have since adopted Maranda and am proud to be her mother. It has been amazing to watch her grow. I also adopted a now 36-year-old daughter (born Sept. 7, 1088). She is the mother of my grandson, William (born June 20, 2012). Fostering has been the most challenging and the most rewarding thing I have ever done. It is a very humbling experience to be a part of a child's life in this way and to have the opportunity to make a difference in their lives.
Anyway, I would absolutely LOVE to hear from anyone. Relationships have taken on even more importance for me since my diagnoses and I have enjoyed rekindling some old friendships in the past few years.
