Kimberly's Story

Life Life was a challenge, I can not say mine was a bad life, I just had to struggle harder then most. From being a child that had a dysfunctional family I strived to overcome all. My Dad was in the military so we moved around alot. I never stayed in one school for very long, at the age of 14 things got really hard at home, so I took off, met many interesting people along the way. At 16 I moved from Coos Bay Oregon to Littleton Colorado, I ran away to live with my grand parents, It was there that I began to understand unconditional love. I was taught to have morals and values, I am not saying I did not have them at an earlier age, just that I was given more love and understanding then I ever had. When I left Coos Bay I left alot of great friends behind. That was one of the hardest things for me to do. At the age of 17 I met the man I am married to now. We have a beautiful Daughter who now is 24 yrs old, she has given us two beautiful grand-daughters, and a third on the way. I have had a wide variety of jobs, from working at the Federal Reserve Bank, to being a General Manager for Chevron. Today I am doing volunteer work with teens that have had a rough go of life, most of them are addicts, I also do volunteer work with a program that gives both men and women a second chance on life, who otherwise would not have a chance because of the addictions to drugs and alcohol that they have. This program is very successful, it helps many mothers and fathers to gain self esteem once again, and also allows them to gain custody of their children back who have been taken away. It also teaches them how to become more re...Expand for more
sponsible, as well as make better choices for themselves and family members. To see someone that has gone through this program grew is enough fullfillment for me. I mentioned that I have a daughter, she joined the Army right after High School, and was a Military Police Officer, she got out of the service a few years ago, and married her SGT. I am so proud of all her accomplishments so far in her life. Today she is an Office Mngr for the University of Texas, her husband is a police officer. I had always worried that if I had children, would I raise them right, one never knows till they grow up and leave home. My daughter just shows me everyday how much joy I have in my life. My husband and I have been married for 25 yrs this November. Life has not been a bed of roses that is for sure, but through it all my husband has been warm, carring understanding and always stands beside me in anything I do. We enjoy camping, fishing, boating, and of course the NHRA races. We have restored a 1975 Chevy pick-up, we do custom wood-working together. My husband is my best friend, as well as the love of my life. I have always been very much a girly girl, but I enjoy getting dirty as well, I have done things that just amaze people from plumbing to working on cars, I don't let the fact that I might get dirty get in the way of me doing something. Or do I care if I break a nail (they grow back). I have come to realize that my life as a child may have been rough, but it is how you choose to live that makes who you are today, I may not be rich but I have a wonderful life now and that is worth more then all the money in the world
