Kimberly's Story
Life
Since graduation, I really haven't done a whole lot of moving. As most of you know, I lived in Edgewater Park until my senior year and moved to Florence. When Chris (class of '86) and I married in 1992, we lived in Edgewater Park again until 1999 when we moved to a new development in Roebling, making me again a Florence Township resident and, as comes with the territory of living in Florence, a huge Flashes fan!
I am a self-employed medical transcriptionist which allows me to be home for my three kids. I am also the organist and choir director for my church. Don't know if anyone saw the picture in the Burlington County Times in 2005 as one of the "Making A Difference" people, an honor I was shocked to receive. I was having a bad-hair day. But, as I've come to learn, a bad-hair day is better than a no-hair day. On 1/7/05, I was diagnosed with breast cancer and, after surgery, went through months of chemotherapy. Just a word of advice, never say to a cancer patient, "You know, not everyone loses their hair. You may not lose your hair." Happily, it's now been 2 years of survival, which is a major milestone in the cancer world.
Anyway, enough of that, let me tell you about the people who were my reason for getting out of bed during that time. My husband, Chris, has worked for Verizon for the past 19 years. Can't believe it's been that long! He was my rock during treatments and I fell in love with him all over again. As I said before, I have 3 wonderful, albeit challenging at times, children. Oh, and the age-old "mother's curse" has come true. I really have grown up to have ch...Expand for more
ildren just like me!
Rachel is 11 going on 25. Teenage attitude seems to come earlier nowadays. She really is a sweet girl most of the time though and loves to help people. She is a red belt in karate and enjoys riding/training her horse. She also has been playing the clarinet for two years and this year has taken up trumpet as well. It was neat watching her during the holiday concert walk from first chair clarinet to the trumpet section midway through the concert.
Kelsey is 8, soon to be 9. She is my drama queen! But she also loves with her whole heart. She has been dancing since she was 5 and is currently taking classes in modern, jazz and ballet. She also enjoys horseback riding for the fun of it. She tried the flute this year, but is really more interested in chorus. She was so excited when we both performed for the Roebling Elementary Holiday Concert, as I volunteered to play for the 3rd grade chorus.
Nick is my baby and is ALL boy!! He is 4 years old and is coming into his own. He started preschool this year for a couple hours a day three days a week. So, after 11 years of being a full-time stay-at-home mom, I am now enjoying the moments of silence when the house is empty. Full-time kindergarten in the fall will be a challenge. I know I will miss our time together. Nick loves all forms of transportation, but especially LOVES trains. One of his favorite past times is visiting the train museum on our trips to Lancaster. Nick will be 5 in July and will be eligible to play football. Of course my dad and Chris have visions of him as a starter for the Flashes some day!
