Kimberly's Story

Life UPDATED 8-26-08 I currently live in Oregon and have for the past 28 nearly 29 years. I have a career in nursing and have worked at various clinics and hospitals. I really enjoyed working for orthopedic surgeons but when I married the hours were so long it wasn't compatible with marriage and the possibility of a family. I left and went to work for family practice physicians and eventually worked several years for an internist. I preferred internal medicine because the patients were older. I did a stint in pediatrics but that just wasn't for me. I recently went back to Slocum Orthopedics the group I originally worked for when I met my husband. I have kept in touch with several of the physicians and employees and it just so happened they needed some help so they called and emailed me and I decided the time was right to go back to work for this group. Our son is now 15 so I don't feel the need to be so close to home. I am very fortunate as this is an outstanding group of physicians and a wonderful opportunity. I really am trying to put a lot of thought in to my retirement because it isn't that far down the road, OH MY GOSH! I became a mother at age 32, our son, Mason is now 15 and I cannot believe how the years have flown by. He is very involved in sports and his love is basketball. We took him to the Michael Jordan basketball camp August 2007 and he had a blast. Michael Jordan has been his idol since he was about 3 years old. Michael Jordan and a couple other NBA players worked with the kids each night. My husband, Scott and I had a great time just watching Mason interact with all the kids. We live in a very small town, less than 10,000 so his exposure is minimal. Although, Luke Jackson, a former Ore...Expand for more
gon Duck basketball player does attend our church when he is home. My husband,Scott is a detective and works all over the state. Life with a public servant is never dull. As a matter of fact, he arrested one of Americas Most Wanted last week (August 18-08). That was exciting for our little town! I left Fortuna right after I turned 18 and only went back a handful of times when my mother still lived there. She left in the mid 1980's and I do not have any family there. My mother passed away nearly 3 years ago from breast/bone cancer and lived with my family off and on the last 10 or so years of her life. I was with her when she passed away and it was one of the most precious times in my life so far. It was hard but I am honored to have been with her. I have a brother, Mike who I am very close to. I have three sisters which I have no contact with at all. Scott, Mason and I all love water sports and we lived out on the lake until July 2007 when we moved back into town. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and our house was three stories and I just couldn't manage the stairs after knee surgery. I miss the deer, wild turkey, birds and wild life but it sure is easier to clean house! We still go out to the lake boating all summer and use our fifth wheel all year round. We love to camp (just not in a tent). I was a wayward highschooler and ended up graduating from East High but I finally figured it all out in my mid twenties and life has been great since then. I certainly could have made some better choices but, oh well. I had several last names growing up Kelley, Thompson, Kernutt but I used Thompson the later years. I would love to chat with anyone who is interested. I hope this finds you all happy and healthy, Kim
