Kirk's Story
Life
I went to college at the Univ. of Miami (B.S. Biology & Marine Science), where I was able to start doing lab research, participate on several research cruises in the Bahamas, and publish my first paper. I completed my Masters and then my Ph.D. at the University of Delaware (Marine Biology/Biochemistry) in 1993, where I lived a mile from the beach and had a blast. During grad. school I spent 2 months doing research in Japan and acquired a taste for sushi. After graduate school I got married, moved to Boston, and worked as an Instructor and Staff Scientist at Boston University & Northeastern University for 3 years. o spend some time in South America touring Patagonia. In order for my wife to go to UCLA Law school, I moved to L.A. in 1996 and started working at a Biotechnology company (QIAGEN) as a trainer and support scientist. I moved to San Diego in 2000 to work at a Diagnostics Company (Biosite), and I'm now the V.P. of Customer Solutions at Illumina, a biotechnology company that makes instruments, reagents, and software for conducting genomics research. My jobs have enabled me to travel quite a bit (China, Europe and all over the U.S.). I'm enjoying the good life in San Diego. I like to run, go to the beach, kayak, and travel when I'm not working 12 hour days. Please drop me a line if you want to get back in touch.
