Kirsten's Story

Life ( January 2007) I am not sure how many people actually visit this site to see what old classmates are up to and where they ended up; on occasion, my curiosity gets the best of me and I start to look up any names I can remember. This 'gold' membership is for a 'trial' basis only, so I figured I would take advantage and post a bio..... Once I graduated from HS, I went on to the U of Iowa where I intially wanted to pursue a degree in Physical Therapy; however, at that time the program was super competitive and I didn't have the willpower to lock myself in my dorm room and study all the time. Two years later, I transferred into the BSN program to pursue a degree in the career I had wanted as a little girl. While at Iowa, I joined the crew team for one semester and it was a blast- I just didn't fit into the female stereotype of a rower and gave it up. Instead I did some volunteer work at the Red Cross and University Hospitals and also got a job as a phlebotomist in order to get experience for my future career in nursing. I met some great friends and the experience proved to be beneficial. Halfway through college, I decided to become a resident of Iowa and thus prolonged my college career by 1 1/2 years. Not being satisfied with the BSN program there, I graduated with a Liberal Arts degree and transferred into Rush's nursing program in Chicago. I moved back home, finished my BSN, and my first job was with Northwestern Memorial in their Special Care Nursery in the women's hospital. There, I took care of premature babies and loved every minute of it. In 1999, I moved into the city in the River North area and met a fellow graduate of Hinsdale four years prior ( 1987) and after dating for three years, we were married at St Michaels in Old Town in June of 2002. I left my River North loft to move into the Uptown neighborhood and eventually left Northwestern to work in a pediatrician's office and then returned to Northwestern to work in the Prentice Operating Rooms. While my nursing career was proving to be fruitful and enlightening, my marriage was not. Sadly, my husband decided he was not the marrying kind and unbeknownst to me right away, continued to date other women while we were married.....I forgave him once, twice, and then finally realized he probably would never change- not even for me... After living six years of what turned out to be the biggest lie of my life, my husband and I divorced...Expand for more
in 2005. I am back to my old name and turning a most negative experience into a much as a positive one as I can make it. I am now a Operating Room nurse at Children's Memorial in Lincoln Park and it will be three years come summertime that I have been working there. I love it. I live in another great loft and adopted a cat ( Lambeau ) to add to my little family of me and my dog, Nala, who just turned 7 years old. I ventured into the online dating scene for one year and was about to call it quits when I received a witty email that caught my attention. I am at a great time in my life and have someone to share it with for now and hopefully for many years to follow; but what I have learned is to let nature and fate take their course and since you have little control of how your life ends up sometimes, to just let things be as they may and go on from there. For sure I thought by now I'd be married ( happily) and have kids- but I am divorced, dating and don't know when I will be having a family..... In the meantime, I still love to run and have added stair climbs to my most recent exercise challenges. I remain a loyal Packer fan, but am very excited for all of my beloved Bear fans. So for any of you 'classmates' that remember who I was in high school and the least bit curious of where I ended up 15 years later- this is your answer. I still keep in touch with Amy Doehring ( Miller), Nicole Angelos ( Kubesh) and Renee Gossage ( Ray) all of whom I was close friends with in high school and still remain so. ( December 2007)Just to add a little to my story, I had the awesome opportunity of participating in a medical mission trip to Nepal( 10/2007). I went with three other members of Children's Memorial and we spent two weeks in Khatmandu. At the end of the trip, we took a small plane which takes people around the Himalaya mountains; that's the closest I would ever get to Mt. Everest. What a beautiful view- absolutley breathtaking, I can't believe people actually climb up there! The people were so grateful and I had a great time ( aside from getting used to the food...)It also reinforced how lucky I feel to have grown up where I did. In April 2008, I will travel to Columbia for a week to partake in another mission trip and that should satisfy my travel bug for awhile. The match.com date proved to be successful, as we now have been dating for a year and a half. Who would have thought? GO PACKERS!!!!
