Kirstie's Story

Little tidbits of my life... I hope people remember me... ...as honest and kind. They will also probably remember how forgetful I can be. When I was younger... ...as almost all little girls my age, I wanted to be a veterinarian. I love animals, but as it turns out I'm not very good at taking care of them. Maybe that has changed now that I am older, but I haven't had much luck in the past... Every little bird I tried to save died, my lizards died, my hampster died, my fish died... all before their time I believe. How do I blow off steam?... ...I'm usually a pretty calm person so I don't have to blow off steam often. When I do find myself overcome with stress, I like to vent to everyone about it. They are kind enough to listen. The wildest thing I did in school... ...I wasn't really a wild child in school, but I did notice that I kept being cast as the "villain" in the school plays... Witch/Murderer in "Much Ado About MacBeth" and the wicked witch in "The Wizard of Oz". Was someone trying to tell me something? My inspiration... ...I know the type of person I want to be so I take my inspiration from other people. If they see me as something I know I don't want to be, then I know something needs to change. Where have I been?... ...I have lived in a number of places since High School. I lived with my parents in Sterling, VA till I got married in 2001. I moved to Leesburg, VA until I got divorced in 2004. I then moved back with my parents a few months and rented a room in an apartment in Ashburn, VA. I moved back to Leesburg, VA when my boyfriend needed an apartment. Then we relocated with work and moved to Birmingham, AL for a year until Brian decided to change careers. We then were lucky that my parents were willing to take us in rent free until Brian was done with his schooling. Whew! People I miss... ...There are a number of people that I miss from my past. I miss a lot of my high school friends/acquaintences... especially those I spent a lot of time with in Drama or Band. Hobbies... ...I tend to watch a lot of TV lately, maybe too much. I am trying to incorporate other things in my life like getting more exercise for one. I try to find special events in the area to which my family can go. We like to go hiking and maybe we will run another 10-miler in DC at some point. Bria...Expand for more
n wants to do a marathon, but the 10-miler is enough for me. Life's surprises... ...I am actually surprised at the turn life has taken for me. I never thought that I would still be in my parents' house at 30, though it is for a good cause. I never thought my son would be as good, and cute, and smart as he already is at age 3. And I especially did not think that I would ever find a man as smart as the one I married. I am astounded at all of the blessings that life has thrown at me. What I have learned from my son... ...My son, Benjamin, has opened up the more innocent side of me. He is reminding me everyday how I used to be. I used to always accept things without question and see the good in people over the bad. I have gotten a little older and a little more skeptical. Though this is good in a lot of ways, I would like to get some more of that innocence back. Career aspirations... ...I have an associates degree in accounting and would like to pursue my Bachelor's degree for as long as I am working. I would like to stay home with my kids, though. If ever given the chance, I would take it in a heartbeat. It would be better to have one of us taking care of stuff around the house so we are both not working all hours of the day. I think my sense of style is... ...jeans. If I could wear them all of the time I would. I do like variety though. I like to look good, though it doesn't always work out as I plan. I have struggled over the years with my style and have had some mishaps in the past... bad ones. Unfortunately, a good number of them are in pictures. Oh well. If I had one do over in life... ...I would have found out who I was before making any big life decisions. I tended to make decisions based on what other people thought or felt. I still do that on occasion, but more now to make sure what other people think matches my goal(s) for myself. K.I.T.... ...I still keep in touch with Stephanie Painter (Sigmon) and Thia Dale (Henry) on a fairly regular basis. We can all just talk to each other about anything. What would surprise everyone at the reunion... ...I think the thing that would surprise everyone at my high school reunion would be the fact that I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). It's tough to think what could happen, but so far I've gotten over the obstacles.
