Kisha's Story
Life
After graduation I attended Northeast until I transferred to the University of Alabama at B'ham (Go Blazers!!!). I graduated there with a BS in Biology in 1996 and started graduate school in fall of 1996 at the Univeristy of Georgia (Go DAWGS...Sic 'em!!!). In fall of 1999 I passed my final defense for my work with a plant virus and officially graduated in June 2000 with a MS in Plant Pathology. I began working as the Education Program Specialist for the department of Plant Pathology in 1999. I love my job, as I get to travel all over the United States and I get to meet so many people from all over the world. I conduct workshops for teachers and students. I also design websites for educational purposes. I am to begin work toward a PhD. in science education soon, when I finally get the chance to fill out all my paperwork.
I love living in Athens, GA. Close enough to Atlanta to go have fun there but far enough away to avoid the hassels. I just recently bought a house, a three bedroom, 2.5 bath, two story house. I love it and have plenty of landscaping to keep me busy....Expand for more
I also work with teenagers at the church I attend. I am a group leader for the 11th graders. The kids are awesome and always keep me guessing about what they will do next. And we thought we had it crazy as teens.
I hike or mountain bike when I can (my bike is currently out of commission--seems the wreck I had that landed me in the emercency room messed up the gears and derailer). I don't play basketball much anymore, had to give that up when I broke my ankle again. I love to be outdoors so I try to do stuff on the weekends, but I end up working more weekends than I care to work.
Update (Winter 2001): Still working at UGA (GO DAWGS!!!), also writing monthly articles for the APSnet Education Center,and hopefully working on a historical perspective of women in plant pathology soon.
Update December 2007: Well, I finally got started on my PhD (Adult Education)about two years ago. Will hopefully finish in 2009. My travel time at work has decreased because of this but that is fine. I still own my house in Athens and hopefully will get to start landscaping it soon (crazy drought).
