Kris's Story
Short version: attended MCC after HS while working pt; enlisted in the U.S. Navy in November of 1985 as an Aviation Electronics Technician & was stationed in Key West, FL and then Norfolk, VA; married in 1989; divorced in 1993; moved to NJ to work for ACORN in Philly, PA but ended up as a sales/customer service manager for a transportation brokerage instead; re-married in 1995; divorced in 1999 (see a pattern there?); was recruited to Mississippi to manage a customer service/sales department for another transportation company but shortly thereafter took a position with Sunbeam Products (now Jarden Corp.) in customer relations/sales; moved to TX in 2005 to work for Progressive Insurance and that is where I am now.
In March of 2008, I lost my baby sister, Lisa Marie, to colon cancer. While stationed in Japan with her husband, she was incorrectly diagnosed with ovarian cancer & sent back to the states where she was correctly diagnosed. ife, aunt, niece and friend. We still miss her dearly.
After swearing that five years would be my limit here in TX, I messed up and purchased a home on five acres with a barn, huge aviary and livestock shelter in March of 2011 and my mom lives here with me, the three dogs, two cats, a llama, three goats, eight guinea fowl, sixteen chickens and two roosters. Previous to this year from hell (drought, wildfires, temps over 100 for months on end), I tried & somewhat succeeded in growing my own fruit/veggies for five years here in TX but that is not possible this year due to current conditions and ... they say possibly this will not change until 2020. Not a happy camper? I have always wanted to be as self-sufficient as possible & the climate change here is preventing me from doing that. Huge green house? Imported soil? Lush green pastures are now brown and all feed is grain and hay for the critters. : (
On the bright side, I do get to work from home so no more 45 minutes to an hour commute into Austin every day. THIS, I love - 2 years now. The goal was to be 'up north' by now. I am moving that out five years. (I can do this ... I think.)
