Kristen's Story
Life
Well, as some of you know, I got married and started a family right after graduation...and basically disappeared! I moved all over the US and ended up back where I started. Two children and one divorce later I have settled locally, bought a funeral home (no I don't do funerals or entertain ghosts!!)and started a career in social work;I am a therapist in Albany. I never thought I would work with the mentally ill/chemically addicted and live in a funeral home...more likely I would have predicted that I would live with the mentally ill/chemically addicted and work in a funeral home!
Life is interesting...
School
Hmmm...keeping in mind the fact that my children are now 16 and 19 and they would both love to get "dirt" on mom, I'll write carefully!
High school was pretty much "trial and error". I was in search of the perfect balance between FUN and RESPONSIBILITY.
FUN usually won. The best of the fun times were always changing, evolving. There was the neighborhood gang, the Courtroom crew, the Scummer, Polluto's, the Car Field and other various keg-in-the-woods loca...Expand for more
tions. There was Altamont on Halloween, Saratoga's Bijou in summertime. Swimming at French's Hallow, the Altamont Fair, and unforgettable trips to NYC and Boston with not-enough-chaperones!
Back then the police simply asked the under-aged partiers to go home, and fake id's were easy! There were "cool" parents who aided and abedded the partiers, and those who ignored the happenings.
As for school, many of the teachers we saw day after day were less-than-appropriate. A significant percentage made local headlines at one time or another. And I'm not talking about awards...
My best friends today are my best friends of 25 years or more. If you survive all that, you've got to stick together! Friends are your chosen family. Friends know all about you and love you anyway.
College introduced me to a new breed of friends. Do you have any IDEA what kind of crazy people go to school to be social workers??!
I admit, we're not ALL crazy. Now I have a serious, responsible job which I love. My kids are healthy, my husband is wonderful. I think I've found the balance.
