Kristie's Story

I always wanted to be a nurse when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a "know it all" idea. As it turns out, they were "right" lol. I blow off steam or relax by playing on the computer, reading, do crossword or sudoku puzzles, paint my ceramics, make jewelry, paint my own art, redecorate rooms in my house. Watch t.v. or go for walks. If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have my adderal, take a bath, and do my make-up and hair to be able to deal with the day-to-day. My inspiration for my work comes from a couple of things 1) my dad's death and 2) my experience as a child in the hospital for a week. My dad died of a stroke when I was 3.5 years old, my mother was an alcoholic and always sick. MY hospital experience was due to crushing my right arm and the 2 surgeries that I needed to fix my arm. My nurse, the night I was admitted to the hospital, was not very empathetic or caring. So, these two experiences helped to "fuel my fire" to educate myself regarding people's behaviors and to actually help ill people and their families through tough times. I'm a critical care nurse with a B.A. in Psychology. After I get my children raised I plan on going back to Grad. school to get my Master's Degree as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. I love the tv shows "House," CSI ( Las Vegas and Miami), Dexter, Wife Swap, I love going to my kids programs. MY son who is a junior at MHS is in the band, orchestra, playing trumpet for show choir, is the Principle Chair for Middletown Youth Symphony, has made the Honors band (tricounty wide) for the past 3 years. He also played "Taps" at the end of the Memorial Day Parade this past Memorial Day (2008). My daughter just made the G.A.T.E. program for music, made band (playing trumpet) at Central Academy , plays soccer for MYSA, and was in her first Summer Youth Theater production this summer. (2008). Did I mention she is only in 4th grade. I love watching my kids perform. If I could improve my home, I'd remodel my kitchen and add on a deck. My dream home would be 2000-3000 ft. brick single story home with a full finished basement, have a kitchen island, and a gas fireplace. . I've learned kids are a true blessing from God. I've learned what unconditional love and forgiveness is. I've learned being a parent i...Expand for more
s the hardest, most mentally, and physically challenging job. My children are my life, my loves, and my entertainment...not to mention trying, demanding, expensive, and annoying at times, but I would never change my life as a mother. I really love my children. They've blessed my life in so many ways. There are a few teachers I would love to see again; Mr. Regensberg (I just loved his classess and his wisdom), Mrs. Way (from Vail) -I just want to thank her for believing in me, caring about my educational needs, and for her support/encouragement. I attribute her caring to much of my educational success. If I won $100 million, I'd give a few mill. of it to family, friends, coworkers, in-laws, then spend the rest on American Heart Assoc., St. Judes hospital, buy an RV, boat, couple new cars and remodel my home and basement. My best friend would tell you I'm mis-judged, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as talkative. The weirdest job I've had was being an activities aide for people with schizophrenia, severe bipolar disorder/schizoaffective disorder, and multiple personality disorder, none of which were controlled by medication. If I had one do over......actually, I wouldn't want a do over. The thought of having to go back and do it all over again does not appeal to me. I worked hard to get to where I am in life and I have no desire to work that hard again. But, if I had to do a do over I would be nice to everyone and not bully anyone. My first job was at K.B Toys, where I got paid minimum wage to keep toys picked up and lined up on the shelves. What I remember most about it is the store manager would change my schedule without telling me and she stole a check my grandmother gave me to buy school clothes with at the Limited. She was the only one to have access to the back office. The door was always locked, plus I would've seen people try to get into the office because I spent most of my time in the back of the toy store picking up toys. Thank goodness my grandmother knew enough to cancel the check and 2 days after my check was stolen out of my purse, calling the mall security and reporting my check stolen, she fired me! She (the toy store manager) now works at a bank!!! lol. I wonder if she has stolen from them too?.
