Workplace
In high school I worked as a dietary aid and nursing assistant at the Todd Home is Carlisle. After I graduated from college I became a nursing home social worker and helped to open one of the first ever special care dementia units in the area at Messiah Village. That was in 1988. In 1989 I moved to Philadelphia and continued to work in Nursing homes. I received my masters degree in 1992 and became the administrator of an Adult Day Care Program. Four years later I was recruited by Genesis Elder Care to develop and open an adult day care for them. It was quite successful but they decided to sell it because it was not terribly profitable. marketing director for their first ever assisted living caring only for people with dementia. Did that for 2 years and then became a regional marketing director for Genesis and 9 of their facilities. AFter only a year as a regional a new positon was created to be an area coordinator for 4 dementia units with Genesis which I took in 2001 and am still doing today.
I love working with people who have dementia and provide consulting to several buildings on the care of their residents. I am the co-chair for the Philadelphia Memory walk and this year we raised almost $1 million having 6000 walkers. That has to be my most exciting accomplishment. And although it is related to what I do, it is a volunteer positon.
