Kristy's Story
Life
I got married on May 8, 1999 to my husband, Alan. We adopted our son in January of 2000. He was six at the time. We have 2 dogs, a golden retriever and a beagle. We live in Deltona, Florida. I am also an aunt several times over! That can be a little scary at times! My son is starting middle school this year. Where does the time go?
School
I earned my bachelors at Flagler College in St. Augustine in December 1998. It was a double major of Elementary Education and Deaf Education. I have since become certified to teach special education K-12, as well. I earned my Master's in May in Special Education from UCF in Orlando, FL. I am working on my specialist degree in pre-k and complete the National Board process. Now we are holding our breath until November!

ith a double major in Deaf Education and Elementary Education from Flagler College in St. Augustine. I have an Associates Degree from Daytona Beach Community College in Daytona Beach. And I am currently taking a break, although my parents and husband would like for me to pursue my doctoral so that they can call me Dr. Byers. Funny, huh? I do all the work, so they can be amused?
Workplace
I have been teaching for eight years. The first three years, I taught physically impaired children. The fourth year, I taught children with multiple handicapping conditions. For the last three years, I have been teaching children with hearing impairments and cochlear implants. It is an oral class and the only one of its kind in our county. It has been very successful! Now I am teaching children with profound multiple handicapping conditions in grades K and one. I love it! The challenges keep coming.
