Kurt's Story
Fresh out of college, in 1995 I thought the world would never really get this new thing called the internet. I thought only the nerdiest of nerds would want to call into this network just to read stuff and buy stuff. After writing what was probably one of the first websites to sell things before Amazon and many others even existed, I quit and went into the video game industry.
I landed at Activision initially and worked on one of the most respected titles of the time Mech Warrior 2, then Interstate '76, and Heavy Gear 2. Super fun times with awesome people that are still be best friends to this day. was burning me out.
My favorite event from this period, around 2006, was receiving and accepting a job offer at about 10am in the morning, going to lunch, then coming back from lunch and getting laid off by the company I was working. They were stunned at how easy going I was about the news. I never told them that I already another job.
At the end of 2009 I got laid off again from the next company. I had been playing with Mac and iPhone programming at home, so I took my severance pay and started consulting on mobile apps. Now I live in Orange County, CA, and I'm the director of mobile development for Thync inc. At Thync we make the worlds first mood altering bluetooth device for personal use. Check out Thync.com.
