Kyle's Story
School
Jumped around through 3 schools (technically 4) over 4 years through high school. Made a lot of friends, left a lot behind, and lost track of everyone else. I've never been good at keeping ties once I move away, or my friends do the same. Hopefully some of you that I've never forgotten, though it seems I have, I'll be able to get back in touch with before too long.
Military
Served as a Navigation Electronics Tech onboard the KENTUCKY from '93-'97, spent 3 years teaching others how to troubleshoot electronics from '98-'00. Shifted gears and spent a year as a student between CT, VA, NY, GA on my way to be the Submarine Force's first IT Division Lead Petty Officer. chle that 4 year tour was. Three years in two shipyards, and one year of Christening/Commissioning/Operation/Mission along with pressure from Congress to get her out of the shipyard and operationally to sea at a breakneck pace was the longest, most stressfull challenge of my life. On my way out the door, while shoveling ice on a submarine pier, I destroyed my L5-S1 disc. As I write this, I've now got an artificial disc in it's place, and am winding down my last 8 workdays before I go on final leave and start my life over.
What a ride.... Nothing in this world is like the Submarine Force. I'll miss the underways and the challenges, and knowing that no matter how many chips are down, I can depend on whoever is behind me to have my back.
