One of Laura's favorite quotes is:"An old man once said, "There comes a time in your life, when you walk away from all the drama and people who create it. You surround yourself with people who make you laugh. Forget the bad, and focus on the good. Love the people who treat you right, pray for the ones who don't. Life is too short to be anything but happy. Falling down is a part of life, getting back up is living." "I value the friend who for me finds time on his calendar, but I cherish the friend who for me does not consult his calendar." -- Robert Brault There comes a point in your life when you realize who matters, who never did, who won't anymore, and who always will. So don't worry about people from your past; there's a reason they didn't make it into your future. "Sometimes the things that may or may not be true are the things a man needs to believe in the most. That people are basically good. That honour, courage and virtue mean everything ; that power and money ... money and power mean nothing. That good always triumphs over evil. And I want you to remember this ... that love ... true love never dies! Remember that boy ... remember that. Doesn't matter if it is true or not, a man should believe in those things, because those are the things worth believing in ... got that? " -- Hub McCann's speech to Walter in "Secondhand Lions" Sometimes, you just feel everything and nothing at once. Sometimes, you find yourself smiling, while missing someone at the same time. You can absolutely love someone, and...Expand for more
all the while be trying to hate them. Life comes ... without guarantees, except that smiling will brighten your face, laughing will enhance your eyes, and falling in love will change your life. Impress me with conversation, not appearance. Seduce me with music, not money. Convince me with actions, not empty words. Captivate me with how intelligent you can be. There are two means of refuge from the miseries of life: music and cats -- Albert Schweitzer “After a while you learn the subtle difference between holding a hand and chaining a soul, and you learn that love doesn’t mean leaning and company doesn’t mean security, and you begin to learn that kisses aren’t contracts and presents aren’t promises, and you begin to accept your defeats with your head up and your eyes open, with the grace of an adult, not the grief of a child, and you learn to build all your roads on today because tomorrow’s ground is too uncertain for plans. After a while you learn that even sunshine burns if you get too much. So plant your own garden and decorate your own soul, instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers. And you learn that you really can endure … that you really are strong, and you really do have worth.” -- Veronica A. Shoffstall". I say, "Buy your own flowers!" More about Laura:"I've learned that you can't make someone love you. All you can do is be someone who can be loved. No matter how much I care, some people just don't care back. I've learned that it can take years to build lasting trust and seconds to destroy it. And then again you cannot be open to love if you don't trust. So in my world I trust everyone at first. At my age, and with a little wisdom (LOL), I am choosing to let my new friends teach me by how they live and in doing so I learn what my trust means to them. They have the opportunity to become the truly beautiful person I initially believe they are or they are slowly allowed to travel 'alone' on a journey of their own. Regarding life: "If you want to make God laugh, make a plan." What lies behind us and what lies before us are small matters compared to what lies within us. -- Ralph Waldo Emerson".
