L's Story

Life After graduating from high school, I worked as a secretary for several years. I married a local man from the area and for the next eight years, I couldn't decide what to do with my life. I graduated from Youngstown State University with a degree in English Education and went on to teach at Ne Ca Hi, but I was bored with life and felt like I was missing out on the world. I then spent several years working my way fromTexas to Las Vegas. I opened my own business selling carpet and flooring supplies then I worked on indian reservations (before casinos), and finally landed a job in Vegas. Vegas was an exciting time, but for a small town girl from western PA, life was too fast and I needed to settle into something a little less exciting. I met my second (and current) husband at the craps table in Vegas (the best roll of my life) and we were married first by an Elvis impersonator then several years later by a "drive-by" notary. I enjoyed the "tables" too much in Vegas and didn't understand how to live and become a professional gambler. I was certain I would become a bag lady in that town that never sleeps, so my husband and I left Vegas for Texas (his homestate) then moved on to the great state of Florida. I have spent the past 20 years living and thriving as a teacher in Florida (traditional and online) but traveling throughout the country every chance I get. My husband has the same travel bug as I and as soon as we get a week off, we are packed and on a new adventure. We have spent the last 15 of 20 summers in Vegas and traveled extensively throughout the West. We both love the mountains, rawness, and crisp air of the West but we also both enjoy the ocean, civility and temperate beauty (especially in winter) of Florida (the older we get the more we like this elephant burial ground). I have not had a desire to travel overseas as I believe there is so much more to see on the backro...Expand for more
ads of America that most people never get to enjoy. I have a number of hobbies with travel being at the top of the list. In my travels, I have stayed at some of the finest hotels throughout the country and have also camped in teepees for the night. I never get tired of the uniqueness of our country. So travel is definitely at the top of my list. I would have to say my computer is my next love. I take it everywhere I go partially because of my online teaching job and partially because it is like an appendage to me. I don't understand how people ever functioned without this tool. My next hobbie or vice came from the time I spent in Vegas. I absolutely loved the craps table and during the summer it is not unusual to see me "bellied up" to a table somewhere in Sin City, Atlantic City, Tunica or Biloxi.... I love dancing as much as I enjoy playing craps and still can't sit still when I hear that "old fashion rock and roll", but sadly I don't dance as much as I would like. I am also a collector of indian jewelry - mainly fetishes. I started a collection 20 years ago and still enjoy the uniqueness of the true indian workmanship. I started collecting during the first summer I worked on an indian reservation in New Mexico. A year ago I bought a Yorkshire terrier who altered my life. He is a three-pound bundle of energy and he is doing his best to keep me young. My last hobby is trying to retain some semblance of youthfulness physically and mentally. At our age it becomes a challenge to keep looking and feeling good. Since I am not into face-altering injections or mood-altering pills, I have to continually work at maintaining an exuberant and refreshing outlook because I fully believe that feeling good and looking good keeps you alive and sexy! I hope to "be around" for my 50th reunion but if I am not I am happy that I have been able to "get around" so easily and enjoy my life so much!
