Laura's Story
Hi everyone, thanks for reading. So glad to reconnect with you! I loved the reunion June 11, 2022. It brought back a lot of school pride. I’m so glad I did the nerdy thing and brought a yearbook and got a few folks to sign it (thank you!). I remembered more people than remembered me, which makes sense because I was mostly hiding behind a pile of books back then. For some of my old friends I missed, maybe you’d share a ‘virtual’ note I could cut and paste, the way birthday cards are sometimes handled (especially during the pandemic).
Though I was only at AHS a couple of years, I feel we all share a lot just by virtue of being from the same generation and living through the same decades, such as memories of what was on the radio, knowing what an 8-track tape player, a rotary phone, or an 8-inch floppy disc is… that sort of thing.
I went by Laura back then, though my given name is Lauren. I joined Classmates.com after coming across the messages that friends had written at the end of the year… I started reading some of it during a health scare (behind me now, thank God), and it brought a wave of nos...Expand for more
talgia. I found so many generous and warm-hearted good wishes that I got motivated to sign up here and reconnect. It’s nice to remember how I'd had some great friends, some of whom were in the next grade up or down from me.
I’m not sure how to encapsulate the past 40 years into a note like this. I didn’t quite do what I expected to (who among us really did?), but I am blessed to enjoy my work and activities. I've moved from software engineer to educator, and I finally finished that Ph.D., though not in psychology as I’d imagined back in HS (instead, my thesis was on water-focused environmental education programs). I have also been studying Irish, which is a very quirky language.
Here’s my wish for you, a traditional Irish blessing: May love and laughter light your days and warm your heart and home. May good and faithful friends be yours, wherever you may roam. May peace and plenty bless your world with joy that long endures. May all life's passing seasons bring the best to you and yours! And until we meet again, may you be held safely in the palm of God’s hand.
Slán go fóill (bye for now)
