Lacricia's Story

Well, lets see now! You asked for it, or maybe not, but here goes! My family moved around a lot when I was young. We finally settled in the Clarksville area for several years, finally! From about the 5th grade on, some days after school and every saturday, and all summer long I would help my dad haul pulpwood and logs. I always got to carry the measuring stick and pull limbs, til I was old enough, or should I say, strong enough, to run the chain saw to cut down the trees and trim them up. Back then for us, it was a way of living, as it was for most everyone we knew in NE Texas and SE Oklahoma. Looking back on all the hard work we did, I don't have one negative thing to say about it. We did what we had to do to make a living then! It sure did keep your ass in great shape too! Yep, ask a couple of the boys, and a few girls too, that I had to whoop up on for picking on my little sisters! lol. Oh, and yes, I did have lots of friends, and a few special ones too. Yea!!! Those were the good ole days!!! After I left High School, I moved to Amarillo, TX and started college. I went to school M-F 7am - 2pm. I took classes in Commercial Art and Photography. That was pretty tedious, but very fun and something I really wanted to do. I graduated and got my Associates degree in Applied Arts. While I was going to school, I was also working and yes, going out to party too!!! Back when you could get into bars at 18, or younger! Any way, needless to say, I became a party animal, lol, for a few years. I still worked all week long, but after work on Fridays, I rode my motorcycle along side my friends to the lake or river, and went camping and fishing, and built bonfires, played my guitar and had lots of fun. Then comes monday morning and back to work again. Then, finally I decided, or I should say, my Mother decided it was time for me to do something with my artistic talents, as she called them. Sooooooooo, I moved to Nashville, TN and went to work for an advertising agency. My job consisted of taking photos of lots of things, including some of the Country and Western Singers. We did all of our film developing and printing in house. It was awesome. I also drew pictures and did some painting. The best part of the job was meeting all the famous singers and writers. From chamber meetings to Jail-a-thons, it was great. Yep, I got a few autographs too! I did this job for about eight years until my mother, who had moved from Amarillo to Oklahoma City a few years earlier, started having some heart problems. I moved to OKC to help take care of...Expand for more
her, she was my mother, but also my best friend. I couldn't let her down. We got her back in good shape and on her feet after about a year or so and by then I had went to work as the manager of a big retail store in one of the malls. The money was pretty good and great bonuses, so I stayed here instead of going back to Tennessee. I had also met someone in the process. After about three years at this job they transfered me to Dallas to take over a store there, so my partner and I moved to Dallas. The job was a great challenge and I did learn a lot from my District Manager. He was a great boss. We really liked it there, and of course, the nightlife was awesome too. We lived there for a few years, then my grandmother, who lived with my mother back in OKC, got really ill. My partners family also lived in OKC. So we decided to move back. Sad to say, my grandmother passed away a short time later. When we came back, I went to work for another retail business as the manager for which I have put in almost 13 years at the same location. A few years ago my mother's kidneys failed her. She had been a diabetic for several years and it just got the best of her. She was on dialysis for awhile when she had a stroke. She was a real strong woman and she fought hard. She put up a good long battle trying to hang on for us kids. The good Lord finally called her home. That was almost 3 years ago. I still miss her so much, but I think she is in a much better place now. She is in God's House with all of my grandparents, my aunts and uncles and other relatives and friends that have passed, and my beautiful sister, I miss you much sis, who passed away nine years ago. Well, my partner and I were together for almost 20 years, but as of early last year, we are no longer in a relationship. Although, we are still great friends and room mates. Yes, room mates! We found out last October that she has cancer of the kidney, (Renel Cell Carcenoma) which has matastisized to her lower left lung. She has been taking chemo pills for almost eight months now. We are happy to say, the pills are working. Some of the nodules in her lung are gone and the others are significately smaller. The mother tumor on the kidney is much smaller also. Thank the Lord. So, up to date, she is hanging in there. Thanks to everyone who threw in a prayer or two for her! Love you guys! As for myself, I guess I am too stuborn to stay down!!! As long as I can get up, I will. Dang, I didn't know I had so much to say! I guess I had a lot to get off my chest huh? Wow!!!
