My family and I were fortunate enough to move to Las Cruces around 1970-71 from Texas (I KNOW......Texas???....really??....) and I spent my junior and senior years at LCHS. I remember having an almost entirely wonderful experience during those two years, thanks to a very friendly and accepting group of people who took in a somewhat shy (unless you got to know me well) guy whose main distinctions were a complete obsession with music collecting, interests in history and writing and a completely unorthodox way of walking! That last bit was due to my Cerebral Palsy. One of the best compliments I got regularly was that people noticed I was handicapped for about the first 30 seconds and then it was forgotten!!! I also especially remember working on the Bulldog Reminder with la Tannia Pembrook and Col. Frank and the rest of the gang!!! I was the kind of guy that enjoyed interacting with many folks during the day to day but getting really close and in depth with very few. I also cherished being a good listener when needed -- because, alas, I was usually the comfortable, "safe" guy friend for a small number of very interesting and beautiful young women who needed a guy friend to talk with and not have to have their guard up!
