Lana's Story
I moved to the frozen tundra of Rochester, Minnesota 14 years ago. Aftr many back surgeries,8, I was dropped off a stretcher causing permanent nerve root damage to my lower back. I came to Rochester in '92 to get a finl diagnosis on my back at the Mayo Clinic. During my week stay, I met Del Laudon, a funny , kind and loving man. I spent the next 5 years taking many trains, planes and automobiles the 600 miles to visit 2 weeks at a time every 3 months or so. When my son, Rory, turned 21 and moved to Florida with a buddy, I was then able to move to Rochester, at long last. Del and I have been together 17 years.
I am permanently disabled and my abilities are somewhat limited now. I enjoy reading, writing and networking on the computer, where I have been able to reconnect with old friends and classmates on this site and on facebook.. I also enjoy playing cribbage at home, with friends and in tournaments. It is very popular up north, and one of the few card games that can be played with 2 people. I am hoping my back will be strong enough to take up golf lessons next year so I can spend more time with Del during the summer, since he plays a lot. We also fish on our boat in Lake Pepin, also the Misisippi river (the water is almost clear up here VS the muddy miss. that runs in St. Louis!) for yummy Walleye, and trout fish in the many streams around this area.
I also volunteer with our church, and belong to Friend Maker, where we visit members who are shut-ins and elderly and in poor health to let them know they are not forgotten by the church or by God... Just seeing the smiles on thier faces when we visit is more than enough reward for this service.

onny,3, a Maine Coon, almost 15 pounds and gaining . I turned Del into a cat lover, with little effort, and we both enjoy the love, joy and laughter they bring into our life every day.
I do miss my son,Rory,34 and my father, Howard Dartt, that live together in Collinsville, IL, by St. Louis.and I try to get home at least twice a year. I have also managed to attend every class reunion (every 5 years) and look forward to seeing old classmates at them.
The only thing I dislike about living up north is the extremely cold winters. I don't mind the feet of snow, it is beautiful. But when the temperatue reaches -30 degrees and the windchill is -70, and frostbite can set in within 60 seconds on any uncovered skin, I am contenet to stay inside and cuddle under a blanket with my kitties . I realized how cold it really was outside when watching the news one day after living here about 2 years. A weatherman was outside, holding a pot of hot coffee. He threw it up in the air and it froze before it hit the ground!!! I wuld not have believed it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes!! It is not unusual for snow to fall in early October and cover the ground for 6 months! It has also snowed as late as April, on occasion. Sadly, we don't get much fall weather (jacket weather) my favorite season. And I have been known to sport the fashion here,, wearing a sweatshirt with shorts! Quite popular.Since I am a water sign, Cancer, I do enjoy Minnesota and its 10,000 lakes. It is beautiful here in the summer months, I just wish the warm weather lasted a little longer.
I can be reached here, and on FB, and at lanadartt with the yahoo carrier. I look forward to hearing from other friens and classmates in the future ad I'll see you at the next reunion.
