Lance's Story
Life
Not long after graduation I became a scuba diving instructor....ended up working as a dive and water ski instructor in the Middle East for the late King Hussein of Jordan. After I came back to the States, I never found another job that could match the excitement of that one. Finally in late 1997, after switching jobs a few times and hating going to work every single day, I decided to follow in the footsteps of my Dad and Uncle and pursue a firefighting career. I was taking tests in cities all over the southwest and fortunately I was hired as a firefighter in January, 2000 in the Las Vegas Valley. is a suburb to the south of Las Vegas, right next door to Lake Mead. It's a great city to live in and an awesome fire department to be part of. We have 9 fire stations now with a couple more being planned out to keep up with all of the growth. I knew it was the best job in the world, but it just took me awhile to get off my butt and go after it. Still best buddies with Loren Burkman ( he's been married 10 years with 2 kids) and keep in touch with Rick Kuri, Jim Gomard, Leslie Hannes, Ron Hofer, Greg Madsen, Dave Knox, Dave Yager, John Glasgow (a fireman for Costa Mesa), Robin Burket and Beth Servais. I had a very close call a few years back but I'm still single and loving it!
