Lane's Story
Life
Becky and I have been married 50 years. We have 3 children, 5 grandchildren, 1 step grandchild, 4 great grandchildren, and 1 step great grandchild. I am semi-retired as I work occasionally for our youngest sons' company hauling loads in the southeast and midwest. I have stayed active in the Boy Scouts since rejoining as an adult in 1966 when my oldest son joined the Cub Scouts. I have been a Scoutmaster, District Chairman, and served on various other committees and staff, including attending the last 7 National Jamborees as either a contingent leader or on staff and twice did both. At present I am serving my twelfth year as Council Vice President for Properties which includes a 470 acre camp in Clayton, Ga., a 100 acre camp on Lake Lanier near Gainesville, Ga., and a 25 acre camp on Lake Hartwell near Lavonia, Ga. I am also still involved with a Troop near my home over in Grayson, Ga. I am heavily involved in an arm of the Boy Scouts known as the Order ...Expand for more
of the Arrow. I have been involved with that since 1969 and have attended Conferences over the south and midwest with groups of boys and adults. This year I will be the leader of the group for a second time and this conference is in East Lansing, Mi. at the end of July.Obviously, I am enjoying Scouting very much. I hate I never achieved the highest rank as a boy, but I enjoy helping boys achieve theirs. I have been a part of many Eagle Ceremonies over the years.
Becky and I have been very active in our church. She has taught Sunday School and I have served on the audio/visual committee, building and grounds, count committee, building committee, trustee committee, personell committee, served as building committee chairman 3 or 4 times, and as trustee chairman.
I am in relatively good health for the shape I'm in have had cancer 7 years ago, but had it removed and it has not reoccured. As you see I don't let my health get in the way of things that I want to do.
