Lara's Story
Life
I was a speech therapist before going into the Hearing Impaired class in Greenville. I then got my Masters and taught junior high classes for special education children. I retired when the kids became more "Parchman Prep" than special ed and my arthritis and lupus overtook me. (paperwork in special ed is hard on the nerves and the hands.)
I started working parttime in a Christian bookstore and finally my health forced a disability retirement from there.
Now I try to lead our state lupus foundation. I have served on the Board, was Vice President and now am in my second year as President. Volunteer work is tough! I also teach an adult Sunday School class, it's co-ed, but our "ed" moved to Virginia. I sing in the choir, Ladies Ensemle, do solos, and do a comedy solo as "Granny, Teller of Tall Tales and Other Family Secrets" I us...Expand for more
e material from real life. Some of you could be included. lol. You may remember me as shy and quiet. I'm not anymore. But I try to make what I say and do glorify God and help someone in need along the way. Oh, I was named an "Angel Among Us" in 2003 and I am so pleased with the honor.
My husband, Art had West Nile Virus and we are truly blessed to have him still with us. As of February, 04, he is working, but still in recovery mode - which may take a year or more.
My son Jody is a policeman in Memphis and my grandson, Jared, "runs" the 4K class in his school. He is nearly 5 and going on 25. He is the light of our life.
School
Wish I had studied harder the first 2 years.
College
I majored in Speech Therapy and minored in Psychology. Friends and teachers still loom in my mind and I smile. (Well, sometimes I laugh out loud).
