Larry's Story

Life After CHS I attended Scottsdale Commie College for two years, then attended Northern Arizona University for a year, but became homesick (the reality was I had a girlfriend down in the valley). I attended ASU, but quit with 19 credit hours to go. In the next five years I went out and got married, had three children: Michael (27), Josh (26) and Kara (25). I went back to ASU and finished my degree then did the postbac program in teacher education. I have taught for the past 21 years, over 18 at Saints Simon and Jude Elementary in Phoenix. I divorced after 20 years of marriage and remarried over 8 years ago. My children are mostly out of college: Michael graduated from NAU, majoring in Theater Arts Education with a minor in English. He was a Theater teacher at Sunrise Mountain High School in Peoria. He also coaches wrestling at Ironwood High School. Michael and his wife, Sara gave me my first grandchild, Kaitlyn Onnalie. She is currently 3 years old Josh has a degree in Chemical engineering from ASU on a Flynn Scholarship He worked at Sandia Labs in Livermore, CA, but came back here. He went to work on a his in BioEngineering at U. Texas-Austin. He made a career change, and is currently in his second year of law school at Northwestern University in Chicago. He did teach a year at Saint Simon and Jude. His 6th grade class is my current 8th grade class. Kara earned technical theater BA degree at NAU. She wrestled at Ironwood High School in Glendale, being the first girl to do so in that district. She is currently working for an attorney in the Phoenix area. Besides teaching social studies, I am also a civil war reenactor (yes, one of those nuts) and work as a part time assistant principal. Oh, I have a Masters in Educational Administration. I played ice hockey in a 35+ league (Geezer league) and loved it! I've had to take a break from that to take care of family business (we moved into a new h...Expand for more
ouse this year). I have a four year old son named Ethan by my current wife. No doubt, I have no choice but to remain as young and vital as possible. I do have a photo of my handsome son displayed here. The ancient relic holding him is yours truly. That is me in a large nutshell. :) College Apparently, Classmates doesn't allow for a complete college history. Anyhow, I attended Scottsdale Community College for two years. I was into Psychology there, and am glad I did. It was an excellent department. After that, I attended Northern University for one year, had a girlfriend in Phoenix, so decided to attend Arizona State University. We broke up the summer before my first semester there. I attended ASU for one semester, quit with only 19 credit hours to go and decided to work. After working for five years I went back to ASU, finished my BA in Psychology, then started taking what was necessary to get a Certificate to teach social studies. I completed that in 1986 and began teaching. Since then, I have acquired a MEd in Educational Administration from NAU and am currently working on Certification as a principal. Workplace When I was a lot younger, I worked in the fastfood industry, working up to Assistant Manager. I learned a lot there, but grew tired of it, went back to school while still working and required what was necessary to teach. I substituted for two years, moved to Globe, Arizona and acquired my first teaching job at Holy Angels School (Catholic). I taught 6th grade there for two years. My wife (at the time) was transferred back to Phoenix, so I sought a job there. I was hired as a junior high social studies and science teacher at Saints Simon and Jude School, and have been there since 1989. The past 7 years I have also served as an assistant principal there. I love the age group, it is a decent environment, have wonderful parent support and am still growing as a teaching professional.
