Larry's Story

I signed up for Classmates.com several months ago and then kind of forgot about it. I have had some serious back problems for several years and had the first of two major operations in August of last year. Believe me having pity parties and feeling sorry for yourself takes up a lot of time. I didn't pay much attention to Mr. Williams or Mrs. Whitaker in English class so I ask you to overlook any mistakes I might make in grammar or spelling. I am afraid to write without a spell check and this thing dosen't have one. I don't really know what to write. I do have one thing some of you might get a laugh out of. When I was in my early 50's my grandson and I were both dignosed with ADHD. The first thing that came to my mind was all those years and all those people who thought I was just plain mean. Just think what a difference it would have made if those pills had been around back then. Along with a lot of other things I would not have had to pay for two doors and a bathroom tolet. I can't tell you what a shock it was to discover that I wasn't mean at all I was just misunderstood. There is one other thing I would like to share with you. It is something that happened to me at 2 o'clock in the afternoon on December the 6th. 2001. I consider that day and hour to be the greatest of my life. After years of running from God and living a life far from His will for so long, this prodigal son came home and found forgiveness. For the first time in my life I came to understand the greatness of God's love and the wonder of His amazing grace. In His mercy God has allowed me to found a ministry called the Prodigal Son Ministries. It is an outreach to people that the world, society, and I am sorry to say, the church ...Expand for more
has forgotten. I finance this ministry myself and don't ask for or accept money from anyone. God has been good to me in spite of myself. We tell them that they have value in God's eyes and that He loves them so much that He, in the person of the Lord Jesus Christ, suffered death on the cross as a sacrifice for their sins. We tell them that even if the world has written them off there is still hope in Christ. We tell them that we love them and God loves them even more. Believe it or not I am trying to write a book about my life as a prodigal son and where it took me. I'm doing it for my grandchildren in hopes that it will help them avoid some of the pitfalls that I fell into. I am also writing it to give to people who have lost their way and need to know there is love and hope for them. There are a lot of broken and hurting people who need to know that there is still a place for them in the family of God. Not all of them live under bridges and beg money by the side of the road. You and I interact with them everyday and sometimes sit beside them in church. If you know someone like this, and feel led by God, please contact me. I can't help them by myself but who knows what God can do with a broken vessel that's willing. I would sure like to try. Over the years I have looked at old high school albums and thought of my classmates from the class of 64. I am very proud of the success many of you have achieved and the mark you will leave on the world. You have every right to be proud of yourself but don't forget to be thankful. I wish for each of you a good life filled with the joy of God's wonderful blessings. Trust Him in all things and the end will be far greater than the beginning.
