Larry's Story
After high school I attended the U. of A. for two years until losing my student draft deferment status in the summer of 1966. I joined the Air Force and spent until 1970 copying morse code from Russian transmission sites while stationed in Alaska and South Korea. I went back to college at Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill, CA (to prove I could do college-level work) and gained entrance in the University of CA at Davis. I obtained a B.A. degree in 1974 with a Spanish major (Russian minor) and an M.A. degree in 1976. I went to work for the Social Security Administration as a bi-lingual claims representative in 1976 and finished in 1997 as a field office manager. I went right into a new career as an employee benefits insurance broker...Expand for more
working for Wells Fargo Insurance Services in Rancho Cordova, CA until the end of 2012. I then worked for an online benefits administration company until 2014 when I retired. I still work part-time, on-call doing benefit counseling for several insurance carriers including bilingual presentations in Spanish to employer groups..
I married in 1973 and have four children and 14 grandchildren whom I enjoy immensely. I started swimming again in 2001 and enjoy competing in masters' age group competitions both regionally and nationally. I also started running a few years ago and have completed several 5Ks and a couple of 10ks. However, my running days are probably over (2017) to protect my aging joints and I'll most likely stick to swimming..
