Larry's Story
After graduating from high school in 1973, returned to Hawaii and attended UH for a couple of years until I decided that I'd rather earn while I learn in the real world. Worked at a Shell gas station at Schofield Barracks then at the Navy Exchange in Pearl Harbor and finally worked as a photographer in Waikiki. Befriended a nice family from Cupertino, CA that vacationed on Oahu every summer. Moved to Silicon Valley to learn what that was all about. Employed with Bank of America Cupertino, Valley Fair and Sunnyvale Main branches until 1984. Finally got into high tech sales working for some low tech companies before landing at Informix Software where I did very well and also met and married my wife Jodi in May 1989. Informix transferred us to Lenexa, KS after they purchased Innovative Software. Lived in Leawood, KS for 12 years and loved it. After I was laid off, we tried to relocate to Charleston, SC and applied to Blackbaud but they weren't interested. I was hired by Intuit Corp. in Reno, NV after posting my resume on monster as a Payroll Account Executive for the Accountant Channel. cal year end 2008. Since I have my parents living with me, it was suggested by their doctor that we move to a place where home health care was available for mom. Home health care was only available in Reno if you were in a hospice. When we arrived in Las Vegas, I was able to secure employment with 2 companies but they were terrible jobs. I've been volunteering with the American Cancer Society as part of their "Road To Recovery" program, a very rewarding and meaningful experience. I was finally able to interview with Vanguard Integrity Professionals, one of the few software manufacturers in town and they offered me employment as an Account Manager.
I made the decision a long time ago not to have children but it turns out God had other plans. My sister pointed out to me that my parents are now my children along with the few dogs and many cats that we've adopted along the way.
For my friends that I am reconnecting with...hello again. If I ever wronged you in school or during my career...I'm sorry...please forgive me. If you wronged me on the road of life, I forgive you. Life's too short to hold grudges.
God bless you all...stay safe.
