Larry's Story
Life
(Updated 6/25/12)
The business part: I graduated from Drake U. in Des Moines in 1965 as a retail merchandising major. I stayed in retailing until 1972 (Pier One Imports manager). Then I became operations manager for a couple of small manufacturing companies, and also did accounting for the last one until 1986, when I joined a large oil and gas company as an accountant. I continued doing that until 2011, but with a different company. Although I'm not to happy about the current economic environment, I finally retired that year (Feb 2011) at age 69. Balloons and confetti !!
The family part: In 1962 I married Carol, and we had three kids, but our marriage broke apart in the late 60's. I remained single over 10 years, and married Jeannine in 1980 -- and we're still married! 33+ happy years (but no kids). We've got one dog and one cat, and we always have one to three pets around the house. Our Golden Retriever Gracie will soon be a registered therapy dog, and she and I will visit Senior Citizen homes and spread the love and joy.
The location part: Carol and I moved to Dallas in 1965, I moved to Oklahoma City and Tulsa during my time as a Pier One Imports manager, and I moved back to Dallas in 1972, and have been here every si...Expand for more
nce. I'd like to move somewhere smaller, but our church, our doctors, our friends, and family are all here or nearby.
Interests are: Church (almost went into the ministry, have been teaching the Bible for 30 plus years), Stock Market (devising systems to select good stocks) , exercise (weight lifting and running), computers (selling and using), reading (contemporary issues, politics, science fiction), and watching family oriented movies.
Family - three children (Chris, David, Judy) all in Texas, and five grandchildren.
Family oddity: My full name is Charles Laurence Gott, which becomes interesting in the following context:
My grandfather was a Charles, who had a son (my father) Charles, who married Clara (my mother), who had a Charles (me) who married a Carol, who had a Chris (first son) who married a Cara, who had two children, Cameron and Charmaine. I hope you're not feeling "C-sick". The question is, will Cameron and/or Charmaine carry on the tradition? We shall "C". The evidence is not in yet. UNDATE!! In Sept 2012, my grandaughter Charmaine had a son who they name "Cayson". So the C-blessing still holds!!
As far as what I want to be when I grow up, I'm still deciding!
