Larry's Story
After Southwest, I went on active duty with the US Army, then college at Webster College. Webster was interrupted by a little war in SE Asia, so I transferred into the US Air Force for 2-years where I found I was queer for aircraft. I also was married during that time and had two daughters.
After USAF, I started as an aircraft electronics technician on corporate jets and advanced through inspection, 1st line management, then into engineering. I finished as manager of the electrical engineering section. Unfortunately, after 10-years, my marriage and job ended in St. Louis.
I moved from St. Louis to a position in Grand Rapids, MI, then on to Tucson, AZ where I met and married my wife of 45-years which resulted in her son and daughter and an adopted grandson. e, Tehachapi, a town in the mountains between Mojave and Bakersfield. I took semi-retirement at 67 and continued my consulting career. Our youngest son married in California but moved to Virginia. When he and his wife were to have their 1st child, my wife decided we needed to move to Lexington.
Over the years, I have been involved in the engineering and/or marketing of aircraft electronics (avionics) on private, corporate, and military jets and helicopters. It has afforded me the opportunity to become a world traveler; all over North and South America, the Pacific Rim, the Middle East, and to work for multi-national manufacturers (US, France. German, Japanese, and UK). I’m currently working on projects for Pacific Rim and Middle East militaries.
I have a wife I love and kids and grandkids of which I’m proud. Looking back, I wish I’d kept in contact with my Southwest High classmates, but I look forward to hearing from you all.
