Larry's Story
Life:
Married Pam Emrick (Class of '74) in 1975 and have had over 48 great years together and have 2 daughters. In 2002, Leslie graduated from Ball State U in May and was married in July, and started her new life with her husband Jason in the San Jose area. She has worked as an Actor's Equity Stagemanager in professional theater and moved into the private sector to spend more time with family and our grandson Cameron. As I approached retirement, they moved back to Indiana to be closer to family. Kina attended University of Florida on a full scholarship, has returned home, is currently a 911 dispatcher, and is married and lives on the westside of Indy. I left the Marion County Sheriff's Dept. as a Major in 2007 where I served since 1980 and moved to IMPD. I retired in January of 2018 after 37 1/2 years of service. With the house empty and both retired, Pam and I have been able to do some traveling. We have been to Australia, Germany, Austria, France, Hungary, Slovakia, the Netherlands, Norway, Belgium, the British Isles (GB, Ireland, Scotland and Wales), and China (walked on the Great Wall). Our last "big trip" was a river cruise from Amsterdam through Belgium to see Windmills and Tulips. We are planning another river cruise on the Nile to see Egypt, Petra and the pyramids. We very much enjoy river cruises and hope to take many more in the future.
School:
After Marshall, I...Expand for more
decided I wanted to just pick up some cash so I could pursue my dream of being a cross country drifter..... what a goal. Pam and I were married while she was in college and I continued to work and attempted to go back to school in 79 at then Indiana Central College (now U of I) part time. I got in 6 hrs and was told I was on the waiting list to be hired by the Sheriff. Knowing the shifts might conflict, I stopped and have never went back. I've attended the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy and numerous technical trainings since, but have remained degreeless. Pam, of course, has 4 college diplomas.... that should be enough for us to share.
Workplace:
After spending several mind numbing years in the field of retail, I entered the Sheriff's Department as a Deputy in 1980. I have worked in the Jail, Training, and on Road Patrol. I spent most of the last 15 years with the department in Criminal Investigations where I passed thru the ranks to Lieutenant, working primarily in the area of crimes against persons which included a stint in Homicide. I returned to Road Patrol as a Captain and spent my last year before police consolidation as the Assistant Commander of the Law Enforcement division holding the rank of Major. I spent the last 11 years with IMPD assigned primarily to Professional Standards and for a brief stint was the Commander over East District. I retired in January of 2018.
