Larry's Story
wow, life story; well, that would be a hoot now that i'm finally retired (as of 03/15/12) after 33+ years as a clinical scientist and investigator in an insanely busy inner city regional trauma center and teaching hospital: the alameda county medical center in oakland, ca. this medical center also serves as a "safety net" hospital for all patients who cannot afford health insurance or private medical care. amazingly, a documentary was made of my campus hospital - highland hospital - called "the waiting room" last year for release this year and the film has rec'd some astonishingly good reviews. i think this documentary may be in national release; i encourage anyone interested in our crazy health care delivery system to check it out.

olled at unh completely unprepared for the academic challenges. it seemed like i played "catch up" for the first two years at unh, screwed up royally in a number of classes, ran for student body president (totally insane; leo lessard was my campaign manager and, after placing in the top two in a huge primary field, nearly won the run-off election until i made a total boner of a decision that ended up causing me and my running mate to lose the election by ~100 votes), dropped out of college, got married (big mistake, i was as ill-suited to be a responsible husband as i was to be a college student at that time in my life), and eventually re-enrolled at unh about 2 years later.
i finally buckled down and graduated with a degree in microbiology in 1975.
