Larry's Story
Life
After H.S. I matriculated at Cumberland
College, after which I entered the Air
Force where I was a cop. I last served
in Customs and Investigations, as
liason to the OSI. Upon discharge, I
became a stock broker, before going
into the family construction business.
After the service, I began coaching
baseball. I became
assistant baseball coach at Xavier
Univ. almost two years, before becoming
head coach for 9+ years. I left there
in 1992. My X.U. teams won two
championships and my summer amateur
teams have advanced to 14 world series,
finishing third 6 times, runners-up
three times and winning a national
championship. 65 of my former players
were drafted by professional baseball.
Eight have played in the major leagues,
inluding Ken Griffey Jr., Mark Lewis
and David Bell. I founded the Southwest
Ohio League, the largest nationally
affiliated youth baseball...Expand for more
league in the
U.S. in 1984.I also serve as(National)
First V.P. of the Continental Amateur
Baseball Assoc. and as state director
for Hap Dumont Youth Baseball.
While playing baseball in college, a
lovely lady named Nona Laws saw me play
and oddly enough, showed interest.We've
been married over 33 years. Nona
recently retired from Procter & Gamble
after 30 years of working in product
research and development. Her final
title was Principle Scientist. We
have one son, Adam, who graduated from
Mason H.S., where he was All-City (3
times),All-State & Conference Player of
the Year in
baseball. He played four years at
Ohio U. He married his H.S.
sweetheart in 1996 after 8 years of
courtship. His bride, Brandi, is a
fashion designer. They have 2
daughters, Haley, born Feb.1999 and
Olivia, born April 2001.
We will be starting construction on our
new home in Nov.2001.
