Larry's Story
Life
Grew up in Detroit on Littlefield Street. I had a great time growing up there. Had a good group of fiends. Played touch
football on Chalfonte Street. Worked at Wolfe's Landscape to earn extra money.
I have been married to Joyce for 46 years. I met my wife after being discharged from the Navy. I have two grown daughters. Both are engineers in the automotive field. I recently retired from MichCon Gas Co. and moved to the Brighton area, after living in Livonia for 24 years. I now have two grandchildren. Mason and Isabelle. Playing with them keeps me young and worn out. For those of you who knew my brother Doug, He passed away in October 2006 and is dearly missed. I always liked to cook, so now I've taken classes at Schoolcraft College. I now make my own pizza, breads and can whip up a mean prime rib when needed.
Workplace
I retired form MIchCon/DTE Energy after 40 tears. . I worked in the Engineering and Construction department. I was a senior CAD operator responsible for construction drawin...Expand for more
gs. It was an up and down career, but I always put food on the table and a roof over our heads and managed to send two kids to college. So much for retirement, I now work for an Engineering firm in Southfield. I pretty much do the same line of work. I manage to work part time, travel and antique hunting.
Military
Joined the Navy in 1967 after getting a draft notice from the Army. After boot camp, went to various schools to become an Engineman. I was schooled to work on the boat and ship engines and power plants. Assigned to Norfolk Naval Air Station for 1 year. I was responsible for the engines and equipment on the Air Station crash boat. Volunteered for Vietnam. I was assigned to a boat crew in DaNang moving troops and supplies up and down the coast for a year. Was reassinged to HaTien, Vietnam as a Naval Advisor to the Vietnamese Navy. We partolled in rivers in the Makong Delta for seven months looking for insurgents crossing the Cambodian border into Vietnam. I was Honorably discharged in 1971.
