Larry's Story

John Taylor Collegiate meant a lot to me. I was about 10 years old when I attended the ceremony when the ribbon was cut by my Father to officially open the school. Hon. John Taylor was my Great Grandfather and so attending "his" school had great meaning for me. Although I don't ever remember getting any perks for being related to the school's name sake. I really enjoyed my 4 years at the school and made some great lifelong friends and was taught by some awesome teachers. After graduating from JT I attended the University of Manitoba and obtained a Masters Degree in Science. I was hired by Monsanto Company the day I graduated from my Masters and I worked for that company for 25 years including in their World Headquarters in St. Louis, Missouri. For a boy raised on a small farm in Headingley and who had never been on an airplane before, working for a multinational corporation and going...Expand for more
to company meetings in different countries was just so cool. Since working for Monsanto I obtained an MBA at Wharton and I have worked at several other interesting organizations such as: Canadian International Grains Institute, Yes!Winnipeg, Lecturer at University of Manitoba, Linnet Geomatics and the National Research Council of Canada. Life has indeed been busy. I am married and have 4 great kids ranging in ages from 17 to 26 so they are already starting to fly away from our nest. I am back living in Headingley again and so my kids are the 6th generation of Taylors who have lived in this community. My oldest son, Sean Taylor also attended JTC. My Father who co-cut the ribbon at the opening ceremony for JTC is 93 years old and still clearly remembers that ceremony 50 years ago. I am really looking forward to attending the JTC 50th reunion and catching up with some of my old friends.
