Larry's Story
After high shcool, I went to CPCC for a while. Dropped all classes except theater, big surprise. Married, divorced. Worked a string of no-where jobs, Wrangler Ranch, Kraft Salad Parlor (yes, there really was one), rental furniture delivery etc. Worked for Opera Carolina building the set for "The American Girl in Algiers". During the install, I auditioned for Carowinds as a theater technicion. I compared hang overs with the interviewer and ended up getting the job. That was the begining of a long and happy relationship with the park system. I worked in Midway Music Hall and Harmony Hall at Carowinds. I also worked at Kings Island in Ohio and Kings Dominion in Virginia. During this time ('75 to '86) was married and divorced (again), I worked at the scene shop in Cincinatti, numerous Winterfests, Hanna Barberra Land in Houston, a stint with Jean Ann Ryan Productions in Bal Harbor, Fla. a couple of industrial shows, (Toronto (Fr...Expand for more
ench's) Las Veags, (AT&T Achievers Club) and several installs at most of the parks. I was a stage technicion, a stage manager and also Manager of Entertainment.
After the park system, I knocked around a little more. The last job being an Asst. manager at a Circle K. In '89 I started working with Local #322 of the International Association of Theatrical Stage Employees, IATSE or IA for short. I set up, run and tear down most of the shows that come to Charlotte's Coliseums (Old, new and Crickett Arena), the Performing Arts Center, Ovens, Verison and the Convention Center. Also anywhere else someone wants to hire us to work anywhere else in our district.
That's what I'm still doing now and loving it.
Oh yeah, I also worked at Carter's Bookshop out near South Park (now gone) and the Newscenter Bookstore in uptown (also now gone). I also got married again. Still married. (no kids) but that's about to change. Im now seperated.
